The Milwaukee Brewers signed free-agent C Jason Jaramillo (Cubs) to a minor league deal Thursday, March 29, a few days after he was released by the Chicago Cubs.

The Chicago Cubs sent Ps Jeff Beliveau, Alberto Cabrera and John Gaub and INF Josh Vitters to Triple-A Iowa Thursday, March 15. INF Junior Lake and OF Matt Szczur were optioned to Double-A Tennessee. C Jason Jaramillo was also assigned to the minors.

Free-agent C Ivan Rodriguez (Nationals) might make sense for the Chicago Cubs as a backup player if and when the team trades C Geovany Soto. For now, the Cubs have Soto as their starter, and youngsters Welington Castillo, Steve Clevenger and Jason Jaramillo vying for backup duty.

The Chicago Cubs will have to decide if Cs Welington Castillo or Steve Clevenger are ready to become the full-time backup to starter C Geovany Soto during spring training. If not, C Jason Jaramillo will be counted upon in the role.
