Fri, 24 May 2013 15:23:39 -0700 Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (hamstring) continues to receive treatment and work out, but he's likely to need a few extra days past when he's eligible to return from the 15-day disabled list. Fantasy Tip: Ramos' new hamstring injury is more serious than the one he dealt with earlier this year, so expect the Nats to give him as much time as necessary to return at 100 percent. They don't have to rush him back with Kurt Suzuki able to handle the full-time duties in his absence, either. Suzuki is the kind of player that needs consistent playing time to maximize his potential.
Mon, 29 Apr 2013 15:08:47 -0700 Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos is expected to start Tuesday, April 30, after returning from the disabled list Monday, April 29. Manager Davey Johnson will resume alternating Ramos and C Kurt Suzuki behind the plate in the immediate future. "I'll probably alternate a little bit early," Johnson said. "But I was never going to be tied into that full-time. I play the hot hand, I look at matchups." Ramos said he's 100 percent healthy.

Fantasy Tip: Obviously Ramos' return will cut into the playing time of Kurt Suzuki, but both backstops are worth owning in two-catcher leagues. Ramos has more offensive upside if he can stay healthy.

Ramos has been able to perform baseball activities lately. "Much better," Ramos said. "It's been one week after I get hurt. I don't feel any pain right now. I feel the progress is pretty good. I'm going to give my hamstring another week. I will be able to play next week. I should be ready after the 15 days." Fantasy Tip: At this point, Ramos is developing a reputation as being injury-prone, but he's still intriguing in two-catcher formats, even when he's in a timeshare with Kurt Suzuki.

"I've always liked Kurt Suzuki. He's a very smart catcher. He's a very durable catcher. He works hard," Johnson said. "He loves to play. I love to see him play, too." Fantasy Tip: Suzuki doesn't have the kind of offensive upside that Ramos brings, but now that he's receiving more regular PT behind the dish, he's more attractive in two-catcher and NL-only formats. Give him a look.

The pitching matchups will not play a factor into who is behind the dish each game. Fantasy Tip: Both backstops should be owned in most leagues, aside from maybe shallow mixed formats. Ramos has more offensive upside and is a more attractive fantasy weapon than Suzuki, so act accordingly. It seems reasonable that Ramos could earn more PT as the season progresses if he stays healthy.

He's more agile behind the plate, faster on the bases and his swing is the same as before the injury. He has a slash line of .353/.353/.559 this spring with only three strikeouts in 34 at-bats. "I'm concentrating more on my offense," Ramos said. "I'm working now on my swing. I forget about my knee now. For a long time, I thought about my knee only and forgot about my swing. Now it's time to work both together. And it feels great. I cleared my mind about my knee." Manager Davey Johnson plans to have Ramos split time evenly with C Kurt Suzuki this year. Fantasy Tip: Ramos is quickly gaining steam for fantasy baseball purposes. If he keeps swinging the bat this way into the regular season, it'll be hard for Johnson to keep up with an even playing-time split behind the plate. The platoon situation curtails his value some, but both Ramos and Suzuki are worth owning in two-catcher leagues.

Fantasy Tip: A platoon does not help either in terms of value in mixed leagues but they could be options in leagues that play with two catchers. Both Ramos and Suzuki likely would have more value in National League-only leagues.
Tue, 19 Mar 2013 12:24:43 -0700 Washington Nationals C Wilson Ramos (knee) has proven that his knee is fully healthy this spring, and he may be pushing C Kurt Suzuki for the starting job behind the plate to open the season. Manager Davey Johnson hasn't said how he plans to utilize the pair of catchers, though. Ramos is 8-for-18 (.444) in spring training. Johnson plans to let Ramos go nine innings in a game sometime this week. Fantasy Tip: Ramos clearly has more offensive upside than Suzuki, but Ramos won't just be handed the starting job back. If Ramos proves he's healthy over the early portion of the season and hits, though, it'll be hard for Suzuki to hold him off as far as the majority of PT goes.
Sat, 09 Mar 2013 03:07:56 -0800 Washington Nationals manager Davey Johnson said that C Wilson Ramos looked so comfortable behind the plate Friday, March 8, that he is considering alternating him with C Kurt Suzuki during the team's remaining exhibition games. "I'm probably going to try to do that from here on out if there's not soreness or something from the slide or hard inning," manager Davey Johnson said. "I want him to get the at-bats and build him up to nine innings back there. So now is the time. Suzuki is fine but Wilson, I want to see if he can do it."
