The Tampa Bay Rays placed RP Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) on the 15-day disabled list Thursday, April 5, with a right elbow strain. RP Josh Lueke was called up from Triple-A Durham in a corresponding move. Manager Joe Maddon will use RPs Joel Peralta, Fernando Rodney and J.P. Howell in the ninth based on matchups.

Tampa Bay Rays RP Kyle Farnsworth (elbow) is dealing with soreness in his elbow and his status is up in the air for opening day. RP Joel Peralta could see the bulk of the work in the ninth if Farnsworth is out for an extended time period. RPs Fernando Rodney and J.P. Howell would be other candidates.

The Tampa Bay Rays offered RP J.P. Howell a contract Monday, Dec. 12. Executive vice president Andrew Friedman said the team is encouraged Howell can re-gain his form after struggling in 2011 following shoulder surgery. "We're big believers in who J.P. is and what he's done to put himself in position to have a good 2012 season. J.P. is one of those guys you bet on," Friedman said.

The Tampa Bay Rays set their roster for the Divisional Series against the Texas Rangers. The relievers will be RPs Juan Cruz, Wade Davis, Kyle Farnsworth, Brandon Gomes, J.P. The team will carry three catchers in Cs John Jaso, Jose Lobaton and Kelly Shoppach. 1B Dan Johnson, SP Jeff Niemann, RP Cesar Ramos, OF Justin Ruggiano and RP Andy Sonnanstine were left off the roster.
