Seattle Mariners SP Jason Vargas was charged with seven hits and five runs over six full innings for the Mariners Monday, May 14, in a 6-1 loss to the Boston Red Sox. It was the first time all season (nine starts) that Vargas allowed more than four earned runs.

Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge announced the team's starting rotation Wednesday, March 21. SP Felix Hernandez will start the team's first game, followed by SPs Jason Vargas, Hector Noesi, Blake Beavan and Kevin Millwood. Noesi and SP Hisashi Iwakuma will start exhibition games in Japan.

The Seattle Mariners will have their first intrasquad game Friday, Feb. 24, and pitching coach Carl Willis will have left-handed SPs Danny Hultzen facing Jason Vargas. Ps Shawn Camp, Steve Delabar, Charlie Furbish, Aaron Heilman, Oliver Perez and Chance Ruffin will follow Vargas. Shawn Kelley, Cesar Jimenez, Hong-Chih Kuo, Lucas Luetge, James Paxton, Erasmo Ramirez and Taijuan Walker will follow Hultzen.

Seattle Mariners manager Eric Wedge indicated Sunday, Feb. 12, that he is leaning toward using SP Jason Vargas in the second game of the Japan series against the Oakland Athletics March 28-29. "We're probably looking at Vargas right now in regards to the first couple of games," Wedge said.
