"I've been impressed with what we've been doing in free agency, the different ideas and the way (Gettleman) is trying to manage the cap and restructure things to help us," Rivera said. "And the way he's worked with Rob Rogers and Brandon Beane and Mark Koncz, those guys have really done a great job as a group working with Don Gregory and his scouting staff."

Several Carolina Panthers coaches and players agree with ousted general manager Marty Hurney's assessment that there is a leadership void in the team's locker room. After being fired Monday, Oct. 22, Hurney suggested more players need to "step and up and say enough is enough" when it comes to losing games. "I think Marty hit the nail on the head," QB Cam Newton said. Newton added the team has leadership to an extent, but "it's not enough consistently." Head coach Ron Rivera added, "Not enough guys have stepped up. There's the inability that some people have to do that, but those that have it need to step up and put it on the line."
