Updating previous items, Bob Baum, of the Associated Press, reports Al Pedrique hopes to return to his former job - third base coach - with the Arizona Diamondbacks for the 2005 season after being promoted from that job to become the team's interim manager for the rest of the 2004 season after former MAN Bob Brenly was fired July 2. Pedrique, who was not named one of the team's three managerial finalists, said he was told by the team that they wanted him to remain in the organization.

Steve Gilbert, of Diamondbacks.MLB.com, reports the Arizona Diamondbacks have interviewed Al Pedrique about the team's vacant managerial position. Pedrique managed the team the rest of the 2004 season after Bob Brenly was fired mid-season.

Updating a previous item, The Arizona Republic's Mark Gonzales reports Arizona Diamondbacks MAN Al Pedrique said RP Randy Choate's demotion to Triple-A Tucson will give him an opportunity to "work on a few things," but that he should return later this season.

Diamondbacks.MLB.com's Steve Gilbert reports Arizona Diamondbacks RP Greg Aquino will be the team's closer for the time being. "He will be the man," manager Al Pedrique said. "I liked what I saw last night. He had good poise."

The Arizona Republic's David Vest reports Arizona Diamondbacks P Andrew Good may be sent to the bullpen before his next scheduled start. "I think that would be the best role for him right now," Diamondbacks manager Al Pedrique said. "At this point, we're still thinking about it." Good has given up six earned runs in each of his past two starts, including Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Minnesota Twins.
