Marlins | Michael Morse back from DL

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 15:14:39 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse (finger, back) came off the 15-day disabled list following rehab for a sprained finger and a tweaked back. Morse did not start but served as a pinch-hitter.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) should be avoided until he establishes a regular spot in the lineup and shows no signs of his injuries.

Marlins | Jarred Cosart optioned

Sat, 04 Jul 2015 19:26:06 -0700

Miami Marlins SP Jarred Cosart was optioned to Class AAA New Orleans Saturday, July 4. In a corresponding move, 1B Michael Morse (finger) will be reinstated from the disabled list.

Fantasy Tip: Cosart's ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) numbers had been declining since a decent start to the year, so the move was not a surprise. However, Morse ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) hasn't done much to deserve the attention of FantasyScore owners either.

Marlins | Michael Morse to return soon

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 13:36:44 -0700

Updating a previous report, Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse (finger, back) isn't dealing with a serious back injury, and he's likely to come off the disabled list in the next few days, according to manager Dan Jennings.

Fantasy Tip: Morse's ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) will cause Justin Bour's ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) fantasy value to take a sizable hit. Morse was hitting only .211 (27-for-128) with two home runs and 10 RBI before his injury, though, so he'll have to earn playing time back. Both first baseman are mixed league options.

Marlins | Michael Morse hurts back

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 11:44:21 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse (finger, back) returned from his rehab stint after tweaking a back muscle.

Fantasy Tip: It looks like Morse ($2,700, 5.4% of cap) won't be returning to the Fish anytime soon now. Morse isn't worth owning in shallow mixed leagues, as Justin Bour ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) has taken over the main first base duties in the meantime.

Marlins | Michael Morse rehab update

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 11:07:51 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse (finger) could begin playing rehab games with Class A Jupiter as soon as Wednesday, June 17. "I think now he is actually swinging the bat without pain in the joint," manager Dan Jennings said.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) got off to an awful start this year, hitting .211 with two homers and 10 RBIs through 37 games. Justin Bour ($4,000, 8.0% of cap) and Jeff Baker ($1,600, 3.2% of cap) have platooned at first base in Morse's absence and been quite productive, with Bour facing most right-handers and Baker facing most lefties. Barring injury, Morse is unlikely to regain the starting job once he returns.

Marlins | Michael Morse lands on DL

Tue, 26 May 2015 10:42:03 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse (finger) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right ring finger sprain Tuesday, May 26. The move is retroactive to May 24. SP Jose Urena was called up from Class AAA New Orleans in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: Morse was hitting only .211 (27-for-128) with two home runs and 10 RBI on the season, and he should be sent to the waiver wire in standard shallow mixed leagues. Justin Bour ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) should continue to see the majority of starts at first base with Morse sidelined. Bour has as many long balls as Morse in just 52 at-bats this year, and he can be a nice value play in the right matchups in daily games.

Marlins | Michael Morse out of the lineup

Sun, 24 May 2015 09:04:03 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse is not in the starting lineup Sunday, May 24. 1B Justin Bour will start at first base.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has struggled at the plate this season and has not hit a home run since April 18. Bour ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has recorded at least one hit in five of his last seven games, but owners may be able to find better options on FantasyScore.

Marlins | Michael Morse sitting again

Fri, 22 May 2015 12:57:20 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse is not in the starting lineup against the Baltimore Orioles Friday, May 22. 1B Justin Bour is starting at first base and batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has been a disaster this season, and he appears to be losing playing time. He should be replaced in the majority of seasonal formats. In limited action, Bour has produced at the dish and currently sports a .429/.487/.571 slash line through 39 plate appearances. Just note, first base isn't typically an advised position to chase cheap fliers in daily contests.

Marlins | Michael Morse returns to the pine

Thu, 21 May 2015 07:16:32 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse is not in the starting lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks Thursday, May 21. 1B Justin Bour is batting sixth and playing first base Thursday.

Fantasy Tip: With Morse ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) reeling along a 1-for-20 slide with a .095 on-base percentage, there is no reason to start him in any fantasy format. The player pool is deepest at first base and in the outfield, too, so seasonal players should look for an upgrade. Bour ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) is 14-for-32 to start the season with a 1.094 OPS, and he could continue to eat into Morse's playing time if both continue their current trends. Consider Bour an upside source of cap relief in FantasyScore contests Thursday.

Marlins | Mike Morse sitting vs. Arizona

Mon, 18 May 2015 13:07:29 -0700

Miami Marlins 1B Michael Morse is not in the starting lineup against the Arizona Diamondbacks Monday, May 18. 1B Justin Bour is batting fourth and playing first base Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Morse ($2,900, 5.8% of cap) has been a mess at the dish this season and is currently rolling through a 8-for-43 funk with a .448 OPS. He should be replaced in the majority of seasonal formats, especially considering the replacement level at first base and outfield is high. Bour ($2,400, 4.8% of cap) has performed well when given an opportunity (career .323/.396/.424 slash line through 111 plate appearances), but FantasyScore players should view him as nothing more than a low-priced flier.
