The Star Tribune reports the Minnesota Vikings have activated CB Carl Kidd, who has been suffering from plantar fasciitis in his foot, and DE Lamanzer Williams (knee surgery) off the PUP list. Both participated fully in practice on Friday.

Bill Williamson, of the St. Paul Pioneer Press, reports for the Sporting News that Minnesota Vikings CBs Robert Tate, Kenny Wright, Wasswa Serwanga, Keith Thibodeaux, Eric Kelly and Carl Kidd will be competing for a starting role in training camp. Tate will have the edge and could retain his position at left CB. Wright and Kelly will be the main competitors for the starting job at right CB.

The Minneapolis Star/Tribune reports CB Carl Kidd has impressed the Minnesota Vikings during mini-camp. The Vikings are in need of help in the secondary and Kidd has solid speed at 4.3 in the 40-yard dash. The team is also still interested in pursuing CB Dale Carter if the Broncos release him and he's reinstated into the NFL.

The Star Tribune reports re-signing DE Fernando Smith is on the Minnesota Vikings' agenda. If John Randle and Tony Williams leave, Smith could have a strong opportunity to start in 2001. Agent Jeff Durand called any talks "preliminary." Durand said another of his clients, DL Jerry Ball, has indicated he wants to make a comeback after one year in retirement. As an update to a previously reported story, the Vikings signed CFL S Carl Kidd. Kidd could be a contender for a starting job next season if free safety Orlando Thomas is not back with the team.

The Pioneer Press' Bill Williamson reports the Minnesota Vikings are close to signing DB Carl Kidd. Kidd was in training camp with them last season, was cut and wound up playing for the BC Lions of the CFL. The team will try to convert him from a CB to a safety, once he is signed.
