Dan Pires, of the New Bedford Standard-Times, reports New England Patriots WR Dedric Ward, who was recently acquired earlier in the week, could get the start at wide receiver in the Sunday, Nov. 23, game against the Houston Texans. "I think that Dedric really in this system is, as crazy as it sounds, almost the most experienced receiver we have," said head coach Bill Belichick. "Dedric has at least run all of this stuff through the years, he hasn't been here for a few weeks but in terms of overall familiarity, understanding terminology, putting it together quick, playing different spots, he is kind of directing traffic out there on the first day of practice. It was kind of scary."

Ravens | Ward May Become Team's Kick Returner

Mon, 06 Oct 2003 22:54:49 -0700

Adam H. Beasley, of BaltimoreRavens.com, reports Baltimore Ravens newly acquired WR Dedric Ward may soon begin returning kicks. Currently, the Ravens are using SS Ed Reed for kick returns but Ravens head coach Brian Billick would rather rest his starting strong safety, who is already playing 65-70 snaps per game. Because the Ravens can ill-afford to take up an active roster spot for a player who only returns kicks, Ward is going to have to prove his worth as a WR to make the 45-man roster on game day.

Patriots | Ward Feels Right at Home

Fri, 23 May 2003 11:47:23 -0700

The Boston Herald reports New England Patriots newly signed free agent WR Dedric Ward already knows the team’s offensive system after having played under offensive coordinator Charlie Weis with the New York Jets. Weis tends to favor a spread offense, which is reliant upon short passes and yards after the catch. ``It was almost like I'd never left, there are a lot of familiar faces here, too. I've kept up with the offense over the past few years, just standing on the other sideline. So right now I'm definitely confident in the system. This is the best opportunity for me. My best years came in this offense. Charlie has the ability to move guys around and be versatile. Other teams will put guys in the same place every down and lull you to sleep. Charlie takes advantage of mismatches,'' said Ward.
