Twins | Scott Diamond, Anthony Swarzak improving

Wed, 03 Apr 2013 15:08:37 -0700

Minnesota Twins SPs Scott Diamond (elbow) and Anthony Swarzak (ribs) both pitched in extended spring training Tuesday, April 2, and received positive reports. Diamond struck out seven hitters in five innings and will start again for Single-A Fort Myers Sunday, April 7, and could rejoin the rotation by April 12. Swarzak struck out five in four innings Tuesday but isn't expected to return when eligible Saturday, April 6.

Fantasy Tip: Check to see if Diamond is available in AL leagues. Swarzak is more of a long relief option out of the bullpen, so he can be ignored aside from the cavernous AL-only formats.

Twins | Two expected to start on DL

Mon, 18 Mar 2013 13:00:23 -0700

Minnesota Twins SPs Scott Diamond (elbow) and Anthony Swarzak (ribs) are both making progress from their injuries but are expected to open the season on the disabled list. Diamond will make his first spring start against minor leaguers Monday, March 18, throwing two innings. He's expected to rejoin the rotation in mid-April. Swarzak is throwing bullpens and hasn't had any setbacks, but he needs to be stretched out for his role as a long reliever.

Fantasy Tip: Don't bet on a repeat of Diamond's 2012 performance, but he can still be a solid option for rotation depth in AL-only leagues. Swarzak can be ignored in most formats.

Twins | Anthony Swarzak waiting for go-ahead to play catch

Wed, 27 Feb 2013 00:48:31 -0800

Minnesota Twins SP Anthony Swarzak (ribs) is due to start playing catch any time now as part of his rehab from rib injuries, but it would be up to Twins trainers to determine when the reliever would take that next step in his recovery. "They told me it would be the middle of the week to play catch," Swarzak said. "That might be today, tomorrow or the next day. With a rib issue, it's not really a specific day. It's more of a feeling."
