Alan Greenberg, of the Hartford Courant, reports New England Patriots TE Christian Fauria might have trouble making the 53-man roster, due to TEs Daniel Graham and Ben Watson doing most of the playing and TE Jed Weaver performing well in practice. "I don't worry about it," Fauria said. "I'm not going to say it's just football, but it's not the end of the world. This is where I want to stay. There's probably more skill at tight end on this team than any I've ever seen. Every guy either can be a starter or has been a starter for a number of years. I'd hope there'd be room for all of us."

ESPN.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Denver Broncos agreed to terms with free agent TE Jed Weaver (49ers) on a three-year, $3.085 million deal that includes a $500,000 signing bonus. Weaver will have base salaries of $535,000 (2004), $950,000 (2005) and $1 million (2006). There are also workout bonuses of $50,000 in each of the final two years of the contract.

Updating previous reports, Matt Maiocco, of the Santa Rosa Press Democrat, reports San Francisco 49ers newly signed TE Jed Weaver will take over the role as the No. 2 tight end position for the team. Heíll replace Justin Swift, who is an unrestricted free agent after the team declined to offer him a one-year deal a few weeks ago.

Alex Marvez reports for the Sun Sentinel Miami Dolphins TE Alonzo Mayes has begun to make a move to the top of the team's depth chart at TE. He is on the verge of taking the starting spot away from Jed Weaver. Mayes reported at close to 300 pounds at the start of off-season workouts. Last week he checked in at 279 pounds and he looked better than the other tight ends in camp. He still has to lose at least 15 pounds.
