Seattle Mariners 3B Alex Liddi is making his first career start in left field Thursday, May 17, with OF Mike Carp (shoulder) experiencing some soreness in his right shoulder. Carp was the DH Thursday.

Seattle Mariners OF Mike Carp (shoulder) remains on his minor league rehab assignment with Triple-A Tacoma. He has struggled at the plate with the Rainiers, and can only stay on the rehab for 20 days, a period which ends Thursday, May 3. "We'll give him time," manager Eric Wedge said. "You've only got 20 days down there anyway and he's rapidly approaching that. If we can give him the time he needs to get a little further along with his swing and, more importantly, with his arm, we're going to do it." Wedge wants to see Carp in back-to-back games to know his arm is fully healed.
