The Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins entertained free agents OL Ben Coleman (Chargers) and S Darren Perry (Saints) on Friday. The Redskins, who are looking for help at safety now that they released veteran Mark Carrier, may also consider free agents Jason Belser (Colts), Scott Shields (Steelers) and Keith Lyle (Rams).

According to SportsLine.com's Len Pasquarelli, the Buffalo Bills are interested in claiming free agent S Scott Shields (Steelers) off of waivers. However, the Bills are so tight under the salary cap right now they couldn't even afford to pay him the $389,000 salary he'd require as a third-year veteran.

As an update to a previous story, the Washington Post reports the Washington Redskins are in deliberations with S Brock Marion and other free agent safeties as a potential replacement for the released Mark Carrier. Agent Jordon Woy, who represents Marion, said he is talking to the Redskins and three other teams about Marion. The Redskins may also look at free agents Keith Lyle, Jason Belser, Darren Perry and Scott Shields.

As expected, ESPN's John Clayton reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have informed S Scott Shields that he will be released. The team will save $389,000 against the salary cap this year by releasing him but he'll count $200,000 against next year's cap.

The Pittsburgh Post Gazette reports the Pittsburgh Steelers are preparing to release veterans RB Richard Huntley and S Scott Shields. However, most teams, including the Steelers, may wait until Monday to make their announcements because teams have to wait until 4:00 pm Eastern today and the league office is close during the weekend.

SportsLine.com's Len Pasquarelli reports the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to shop RB Richard Huntley and S Scott Shields. There have been no takers which means both will likely be released around June 1. Pasquarelli said it would not be surprising to see Huntley wind up with the Miami Dolphins, a team that pursued him last season. Shields, the league's biggest safety, may end up being claimed off waivers by Buffalo GM Tom Donahoe, the man who drafted him for the Steelers.

The Post Gazette reports Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher told RB Richard Huntley and S Scott Shields not to show up for the team's two-day mini-camp and not to count on being with the team this year. The Steelers are trying to trade both players but have had little success and likely will wind up releasing them in June.
