Nationals | Nats among clubs eyeing Wade Davis

Sat, 23 Jul 2016 17:44:40 -0700

The Washington Nationals are one of several clubs that have expressed interest in Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis. However, the club's asking price is reportedly greater than the New York Yankees are seeking in exchange for RP Aroldis Chapman.

Fantasy Tip: The Royals have not decided if they will be sellers at the trade deadline and pursuing Chapman is reportedly the Nats' top priority, so a deal between Washington and Kansas City appears unlikely. The 30-year-old right-hander is 1-0 with 21 saves and a 1.14 ERA through 33 appearances in 2016, with 12 walks and 30 strikeouts over 31 2/3 innings.

Royals | Wade Davis sharp in return

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 20:41:33 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (forearm) made his first appearance since June 30, striking out one in a perfect ninth inning against the Detroit Tigers Saturday, July 16.

Fantasy Tip: Davis performed well in the non-save situation, and he should be reinserted into all fantasy lineups immediately.

Royals | Wade Davis activated off DL

Sat, 16 Jul 2016 12:34:05 -0700

Kansas City Royals SP Wade Davis (forearm) was activated off the 15-day disabled list on Saturday, July 16. In a corresponding move, Kansas City optioned RP Brooks Pounders to Class AAA Omaha.

Fantasy Tip: The Royals went 3-8 in Davis' absence, so his owners didn't miss much. Kelvin Herrera will move back to a setup role after picking up his lone save opportunity, while Davis returns to his usual closer role with a 1.23 ERA and 19 saves in 21 chances. He is one of the best in the majors at slamming the door on the opposition and should be inserted back in lineups immediately.

Royals | Wade Davis returning Saturday?

Fri, 15 Jul 2016 13:24:08 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (forearm) could be activated from the disabled list Saturday, July 16, according to manager Ned Yost.

Fantasy Tip: Davis is a top-tier closer and owns a 1.23 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP with 28 strikeouts through 29 1/3 innings to go along with his 19 saves. Return him to you lineups as soon as he's activated from the DL.

Royals | Wade Davis already throwing again

Fri, 08 Jul 2016 14:33:05 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (forearm) said he is pain-free and has no inflammation in his right forearm after throwing Thursday, July 7, and Friday, July 8.

Fantasy Tip: This is a huge positive for Davis owners, and it clearly cuts into some of the short-term upside of Kelvin Herrera and Joakim Soria. Davis is a must-stash reliever, and Herrera and Soria are worth owning and starting in the majority of fantasy formats, and especially if you're chasing the saves category. Stay tuned for updates as Davis works his way back from the injury.

Royals | Wade Davis had previous forearm injury

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 13:48:23 -0700

Updating a previous report, Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (forearm) pitched through a right forearm strain during the playoffs last season, according to manager Ned Yost.

Fantasy Tip: Davis was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a right forearm strain Tuesday, July 5, so depending on the severity of the sprain, he could return following the All-Star break. Although, given the injury has longer legs than first expected, Davis could be eyeing a longer absence. Grab Kelvin Herrera and Joakim Soria where you can, as they're both candidates to replace Davis in the ninth inning.

Royals | Wade Davis lands on DL

Tue, 05 Jul 2016 09:46:26 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis (forearm) was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to July 1, with a right forearm strain Tuesday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: This will definitely come as a body blow to Davis owners as he's one of the best relievers in fantasy. One bit of optimism, though, is that with the retroactive move, he's able to come back after the All-Star break. If this is a minor strain, this could just be a conservative move to use that All-Star break to lessen the impact of the absence. However, forearm strains come with different severities. Kelvin Herrera has been spectacular this season with a 1.40 ERA, a 0.85 WHIP and 49 K's in 38 2/3 innings. He should clean up in the ninth inning in Davis' absence. Joakim Soria is another option that has quite a bit of closing experience. However, his stuff isn't what it used to be. Herrera should be the guy and should be owned universally.

Royals | Wade Davis blows save

Wed, 29 Jun 2016 23:12:32 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis allowed a run on two hits and a walk in one inning against the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday, June 29. It was his second blown save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: It was a rare misstep for the usually dependable Davis, who is now 18-for-20 in save opportunities this season. Ironically, Joakim Soria then blew a save of his own in the 10th. It wasn't the usual blueprint for KC's bullpen, but they're still one of the top groups in all of baseball.

Royals | Joakim Soria struggles in save situation

Thu, 02 Jun 2016 19:30:58 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Joakim Soria (2-2) allowed two runs on two hits over two-thirds of an inning in a loss to the Cleveland Indians Thursday, June 2. He entered the game in a save situation because RP Wade Davis was given the day off, after pitching three times in the previous four days.

Fantasy Tip: Soria is no stranger to the closer's role, having earned 24 saves last season and 203 in his career. Owners in AL-only fantasy leagues, along with anyone desperate for saves, should consider having the 32-year-old right-hander on their roster in case Davis gets injured down the line or is unavailable due to an excessive workload.

Sat, 28 May 2016 05:14:02 -0700

Kansas City Royals RP Wade Davis pitched a scoreless ninth inning against the Chicago White Sox Friday, May 27, to pick up his 13th save of the season.

Fantasy Tip: Davis has picked up the save in each of his last five appearances and currently has a 1.02 ERA. He should receive plenty of save opportunities and should be used in all fantasy leagues.
