Tampa Bay Rays SP Jeremy Hellickson (head) passed another concussion test Friday, April 13, but league doctors have yet to clear him to start Saturday, April 14. SP Wade Davis or P Chris Archer would be in line to start if Hellickson can't go.

Tampa Bay Rays manager Joe Maddon said he will wait "maybe a week or ten days down the road, and try to make the right decision" on who will fill the final two rotation spots. SPs Wade Davis, Matt Moore and Jeff Niemann are in competition for the two open spots.

Tampa Bay Rays SP Wade Davis threw two scoreless innings and gave up just one hit in his spring outing against the Baltimore Orioles Monday, March 5. He threw 20 of his 28 pitches for strikes.

There is some indication from the Tampa Bay Rays that SP Wade Davis will be the starting pitching candidate that is moved to the bullpen this year. The belief is that Davis can max out on his velocity if he's only throwing one or two innings at a time.

Tampa Bay Rays SPs Jeff Niemann and Wade Davis figure to battle it out for the No. 5 starting spot this spring. Niemann or Davis could be used in the bullpen or dangled as trade bait. There is also a chance that SP Matt Moore could start at Class AAA.
