Oakland Athletics 1B Chris Carter busted out of a slump with three home runs and five RBIs Sunday, April 22, for Triple-A Sacramento. The breakout is due to part to a small mechanical change in his swing.

Oakland Athletics OF Manny Ramirez will serve as the designated hitter in the team's intrasquad game Thursday, March 1. He will also be the DH when they face the Seattle Mariners in their first spring game Friday, March 2. 1B Brandon Allen, OF Chris Carter, OF Jonny Gomes, 1B Kila Ka'aihue and OF Seth Smith will also rotate at the DH spot this spring.

Oakland Athletics 1B Brandon Allen, OF Chris Carter, OF Jonny Gomes, 1B Kila Ka'aihue and OF Seth Smith are being considered for the designated hitter job, at least for the first 50 games while OF Manny Ramirez is suspended.

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin said a decision on the first base starter will take some time, and the team will get a look at all candidates. 1B Chris Carter will see time at first base and designated hitter.

Oakland Athletics manager Bob Melvin made it seem like OF Chris Carter's call-up will not be permanent this time around. Melvin said that OF Josh Willingham (Achilles') will be back in the lineup for good when he gets back from the DL.
