Astros | Marwin Gonzalez in two-hole

Tue, 28 Jul 2015 17:02:51 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and hitting second against Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP C.J. Wilson Tuesday, July 28. 1B Chris Carter is serving as the designated hitter and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($2,800, 5.6% of cap) receives a slight daily boost with the move up the batting order, and he could be an attractive sleeper with his .304 (24-for-79) average against lefties this year. Three of his seven homers have come off lefties in 2015.

Astros | Marwin Gonzalez starting at first base

Sun, 26 Jul 2015 09:12:01 -0700

Houston Astros SS Marwin Gonzalez is starting at first base and batting seventh against Kansas City Royals SP Yordano Ventura Sunday, July 26. 1Bs Chris Carter and Jon Singleton are not in the starting lineup Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Gonzalez ($2,200, 4.4% of cap) stands as a sneaky source of cap relief at FantasyScore Sunday. While his production is modest (.267/.300/.438 with 27 runs, seven home runs and 22 RBI over 222 plate appearances), Ventura ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) has struggled (6.21 ERA over his past six starts), so the Astros have a chance to score plenty Sunday.

Astros | Chris Carter sitting out

Fri, 24 Jul 2015 14:02:41 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Jeremy Guthrie Friday, July 24. 1B Jon Singleton will start at first base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Singleton ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting .184 with four RBI this season and is not a great option for owners on FantasyScore.

Astros | Chris Carter out of the lineup

Wed, 22 Jul 2015 13:42:19 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter is not in the starting lineup against Boston Red Sox SP Joe Kelly Wednesday, July 22. 1B Jon Singleton will start at first base and is batting seventh in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) likely is receiving a day off and should return to the lineup soon. Singleton ($3,700, 7.4% of cap) is hitting only .167 this season and is not the best option for owners on FantasyScore to consider.

Astros | Chris Carter breaks out of slump

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 22:33:32 -0700

Houston Astros DH Chris Carter (ankle) returned to the lineup Tuesday, July 21, against the Boston Red Sox after missing two games due to an ankle injury. He hit a solo home run with a walk and two RBIs in three at-bats.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600; or 7.2% of cap) is a great source of power for FantasyScore players when he is running hot, but just beware of his strikeout totals which can be high.

Astros | Chris Carter not in Tuesday lineup

Tue, 21 Jul 2015 14:30:05 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter (ankle) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, July 21, against the Boston Red Sox. SS Marwin Gonzalez is in the lineup at first base and batting second.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) is hoping to avoid the disabled list, but the more he misses games like this the more likely he may have to go on it. Keep Carter seated until he gets over his ankle issues.

Astros | Chris Carter hoping to avoid DL

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 05:16:26 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter (ankle) remains hopeful he can avoid a trip to the disabled list. Carter said Saturday, July 18, the swelling has subsided but there's a lot of soreness.

Fantasy Tip: Carter ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) should be avoided on FantasyScore for a little while, even if he is able to return to the lineup quickly. The slugger was 0-for-his-last-19 before sustaining the injury.

Astros | Jon Singleton starting

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 13:27:38 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Jon Singleton is starting at first base and hitting eighth in the order Saturday, July 18, against the Texas Rangers and RHP Colby Lewis. 1B Chris Carter (ankle) is out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Singleton ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) has a horrendous 42.4% strikeout rate through 33 plate appearances in the majors this season, but the power upside is clearly there, as he had hit 17 home runs at Class AAA this season. Singleton can be used in GPP tournaments on FantasyScore when he faces right-handed pitching.

Astros | Chris Carter may be placed on DL

Sat, 18 Jul 2015 08:54:25 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter (ankle) said he is not sure if he will be able to avoid the 15-day disabled list after suffering an ankle injury Friday, July 17. Carter did not undergo an X-ray after the game and was able to walk without crutches or a boot.

Fantasy Tip: Owners will need to monitor the situation over the next day or two to see if Carter ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) will have to sit out a few weeks. Jon Singleton ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) likely would receive more playing time if Carter is sidelined and could be an option on FantasyScore against certain opponents.

Astros | Chris Carter has sprained ankle

Fri, 17 Jul 2015 18:27:18 -0700

Houston Astros 1B Chris Carter (ankle) left the game against the Texas Rangers Friday, July 17, because of a right ankle sprain. He suffered the injury after being pulled off the bag by an errant throw from 2B Jose Altuve on SS Elvis Andrus' infield single during the second inning. He was replaced in the game by 1B Jon Singleton.

Fantasy Tip: Expect Singleton ($3,600, 7.2% of cap) to receive regular playing time at first base if Carter ($4,600, 9.2% of cap) is sidelined for an extended period. Singleton was 3-for-25 with three RBIs entering play Friday, July 17, and is an inexpensive source of power in FantasyScore if you don't mind a low batting average.
