Rockies | Carlos Gonzalez out vs. lefty

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 15:25:13 -0700

Colorado Rockies OF Carlos Gonzalez is not in the starting lineup against Arizona Diamondbacks left-handed SP Robbie Ray Friday, April 29. OF Ryan Raburn draws into the lineup in left field and is hitting fifth in the order. 1B Mark Reynolds is batting cleanup.

Fantasy Tip: Raburn is a notorious lefty killer and is a sound investment in DFS action this evening. Reynolds is coming off a three-hit, one-homer performance Wednesday and gains additional daily value in the cleanup spot in a potent offense. He's also worth a sleeper selection against Ray.

Rockies | Ben Paulsen sitting out Saturday

Sat, 16 Apr 2016 10:28:10 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B/OF Ben Paulsen is out of the starting lineup against Chicago Cubs SP Jake Arrieta Saturday, April 16. INF Mark Reynolds is playing first base and batting fifth, while OF Ryan Raburn is playing left field and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Paulsen is off to a decent start in 2016, batting .318 with three RBI through his first nine games, but he will give way to the free-swinging Reynolds, who is homeless through his first seven contests. Raburn is 5-for-12 with a pair of home runs but does not have a favorable matchup versus Arrieta.

Rockies | Nick Hundley remains out

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 08:19:18 -0700

Colorado Rockies C Nick Hundley (head) is out of the lineup again Friday, April 15, with C Tony Wolters hitting eighth. OF Ryan Raburn is hitting sixth with 1B Mark Reynolds on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Wolters is 3-for-8 (.375) on the young season with two steals, and he's not a bad low-end flyer against Kyle Hendricks. Raburn is 3-for-9 (.333) with a couple of jacks on the year, and he's a low-end option as well.

Rockies | Mark Reynolds shows signs of life

Thu, 14 Apr 2016 16:33:52 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Mark Reynolds went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, two doubles and three RBI in the win over the San Francisco Giants Thursday, April 14. Reynolds raised his average to .227 on the season.

Fantasy Tip: With Charlie Blackmon (toe) on the DL, more playing time could be opened up for Reynolds at first base. It's significant for those in deep mixed leagues because of Reynolds' power abilities. Just don't expect him to help at all in the average department.

Rockies | Mark Reynolds in at 1B again

Fri, 08 Apr 2016 10:26:16 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Mark Reynolds is in the starting lineup batting sixth Friday, April 8, opposite the San Diego Padres.

Fantasy Tip: This will be Reynolds' third start at first base in four games, with Ben Paulsen getting the other. It was basically a toss-up as to how the playing time would be handled over at first, but if this trend keeps up, Reynolds could emerge in all leagues. He's worth a speculative add right now in all deep formats if he's out there on the wire.

Rockies | Ben Paulsen starting Tuesday

Tue, 05 Apr 2016 14:31:11 -0700

Colorado Rockies 1B Ben Paulsen is starting at first base and is hitting seventh against Arizona Diamondbacks SP Shelby Miller Tuesday, April 5. 1B Mark Reynolds will start on the bench.

Fantasy Tip: Paulsen and Reynolds will switch off at first base throughout the season, and Paulsen could have the strong side of the platoon hitting from the left side. He hit .282 with all 11 of his long balls coming against right-handers last year, so Paulsen is attractive in daily games against certain pitchers and in NL-only formats for his pop. You may want to consider buying low on him in daily games tonight.

Rockies | Ben Paulsen looking good

Wed, 02 Mar 2016 12:42:30 -0800

Colorado Rockies 1B Ben Paulsen is receiving good reviews in camp this year after struggling with concerning weight loss last season. He showed up to camp a muscular 216 pounds and expects to play at 212 after finishing 2015 weighing 195 pounds. Manager Walt Weiss is likely to play the matchups at first base with Paulsen and 1B Mark Reynolds. Paulsen is under a specific eating plan to keep him from avoiding another drastic weight loss.

Fantasy Tip: There's modest power production here in one of baseball's best hitting environments, but a lack of full-time playing time limits his fantasy value to mostly NL-only leagues. However, he's a nice undervalued daily target against right-handers at home, too.

Rockies | Mark Reynolds says he still has power

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 09:10:30 -0800

Colorado Rockies 1B Mark Reynolds said he can be a 30-homer player again if he receives regular playing time. "My power hasn't gone anywhere," said Reynolds, who finalized a one-year, $2.6 million deal Wednesday, Dec. 16. "Just playing time has gone down. That's why my home runs are down." Reynolds hasn't hit 30 homers in a season since 2011, but he's a lifetime .287 hitter in Denver. He's expected to compete at first base with 1B Ben Paulsen, and Reynolds can also spell 3B Nolan Arenado at third base occasionally. Reynolds could also play some outfield. He can make an extra $100,000 for 100 plate appearances, $200,000 each for 200 and 300 and $300,000 each for 400 and 500.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds had just 13 home runs and 48 RBI with the St. Louis Cardinals in 140 games last year. Busch stadium is known as a pitcher's park, though, and the move to Coors Field should definitely help Reynolds' power stroke. However, he's not going to help you in average and it would be foolish to bank on a return to the 30-homer mark even with regular playing time. Reynolds isn't a bad stab in deep mixed and NL-only leagues for some power, though.

Rockies | Mark Reynolds signs with Rockies

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 10:05:46 -0800

Free-agent 1B Mark Reynolds (Cardinals) signed a one-year, $2.6 million deal plus incentives with the Colorado Rockies Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds will be an attractive pick very late in mixed league drafts because of his power headed to Coors Field.

Cardinals | Matt Adams sitting out

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 08:12:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday, Sept. 30, with 1B Mark Reynolds hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a perennial boom-or-bust play, and he homered two nights ago. He's 2-for-7 (.286) with a homer off ace Gerrit Cole, but know the risk of a goose egg on FantasyScore.
