Rockies | Mark Reynolds says he still has power

Thu, 17 Dec 2015 09:10:30 -0800

Colorado Rockies 1B Mark Reynolds said he can be a 30-homer player again if he receives regular playing time. "My power hasn't gone anywhere," said Reynolds, who finalized a one-year, $2.6 million deal Wednesday, Dec. 16. "Just playing time has gone down. That's why my home runs are down." Reynolds hasn't hit 30 homers in a season since 2011, but he's a lifetime .287 hitter in Denver. He's expected to compete at first base with 1B Ben Paulsen, and Reynolds can also spell 3B Nolan Arenado at third base occasionally. Reynolds could also play some outfield. He can make an extra $100,000 for 100 plate appearances, $200,000 each for 200 and 300 and $300,000 each for 400 and 500.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds had just 13 home runs and 48 RBI with the St. Louis Cardinals in 140 games last year. Busch stadium is known as a pitcher's park, though, and the move to Coors Field should definitely help Reynolds' power stroke. However, he's not going to help you in average and it would be foolish to bank on a return to the 30-homer mark even with regular playing time. Reynolds isn't a bad stab in deep mixed and NL-only leagues for some power, though.

Rockies | Mark Reynolds signs with Rockies

Thu, 10 Dec 2015 10:05:46 -0800

Free-agent 1B Mark Reynolds (Cardinals) signed a one-year, $2.6 million deal plus incentives with the Colorado Rockies Thursday, Dec. 10.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds will be an attractive pick very late in mixed league drafts because of his power headed to Coors Field.

Cardinals | Matt Adams sitting out

Wed, 30 Sep 2015 08:12:30 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is out of the lineup for Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday, Sept. 30, with 1B Mark Reynolds hitting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is a perennial boom-or-bust play, and he homered two nights ago. He's 2-for-7 (.286) with a homer off ace Gerrit Cole, but know the risk of a goose egg on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong out against southpaw

Wed, 23 Sep 2015 15:05:39 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong is not in the lineup against Cincinnati Reds left-handed SP Brandon Finnegan Wednesday, Sept. 23. 3B Matt Carpenter moves to second base and 1B Mark Reynolds is starting at the hot corner and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has plenty of power but is a lotto ticket for FantasyScore gamers tonight, even against a left-handed youngster. Reynolds swings and misses too much to be relied on consistently, and he's hitting only .221 (23-for-104) with five of his 12 home runs this season. Carpenter ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) isn't attractive when facing lefties from the right side, either.

Cardinals | Matt Adams starting vs. Reds

Tue, 22 Sep 2015 14:56:35 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Matt Adams is starting at first base and is batting fifth against Cincinnati Reds SP Keyvius Sampson Tuesday, Sept. 22. 1Bs Brandon Moss and Mark Reynolds remain out of the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Many folks may have forgotten about Adams ($3,400, 6.8% of cap). He has played sparingly since coming off the DL but has a solid matchup against the youngster Sampson. Adams is worth a gamble for his cheap price on FantasyScore tonight.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds receives start

Sat, 19 Sep 2015 08:15:47 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds will start at first base against Chicago Cubs SP Travis Wood Saturday, Sept. 19, and is batting eighth in the lineup.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) likely is in the starting lineup because the team is facing a left-handed pitcher. He is hitting only .105 in September and is not a great starting option for owners on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong out Wednesday

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 07:46:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (calf) is out of the lineup Wednesday, Sept. 9, with 3B Mark Reynolds hitting eighth.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) doesn't really stand out against lefties and has Jon Lester on tap today. Pass on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong out again

Tue, 08 Sep 2015 15:29:54 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (calf) is not in the starting lineup Tuesday, Sept. 8. 3B Matt Carpenter moves over to second base, and 1B Mark Reynolds is starting at third base and is hitting sixth against Chicago Cubs SP Jason Hammel.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) has big power but makes little contact to rely on him seriously on FantasyScore. He's an all-or-nothing type of player that could homer and knock in runs in bunches or go 0-for-5 with five strikeouts.

Cardinals | Kolten Wong scratched

Mon, 07 Sep 2015 11:03:47 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 2B Kolten Wong (calf) was scratched from the starting lineup Monday, Sept. 7, because of a tight calf. 3B Matt Carpenter will start at second base, while 1B Mark Reynolds will start at third base.

Fantasy Tip: Wong ($3,900, 7.8% of cap) is dealing with a minor injury and should return soon. Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is batting .240 this season and may not be the best option on FantasyScore.

Cardinals | Mark Reynolds remains out

Fri, 04 Sep 2015 14:32:50 -0700

St. Louis Cardinals 1B Mark Reynolds (wrist) is not in the starting lineup Friday, Sept. 4. OF Peter Bourjos draws into the lineup and is batting eighth against Pittsburgh Pirates SP J.A. Happ Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Reynolds ($3,100, 6.2% of cap) is missing his second consecutive game with the injury, so you'll want to check back for updates before returning him to your lineups. He is having a respectable second half as a part-time player with a .274/.364/.453 slash line. Bourjos ($2,600, 5.2% of cap) owns a .644 OPS over the past two seasons, and he can't be started with confidence at FantasyScore Friday.
