Athletics | Loaiza could wind up on the disabled list

Sat, 31 Mar 2007 13:29:04 -0700

FOXSports.com reports Oakland Athletics SP Esteban Loaiza (shoulder) was scratched from his scheduled start Saturday, March 31, and could begin the season on the disabled list. If he feels alright, Loaiza will throw a bullpen session Monday, April 2, and Tuesday, April 3, and he could then make his start Thursday, April 4. However, manager Bob Geren was skeptical he'd be able to make that start. "My first guess is he would start on the DL," said Geren. "He couldn't pitch two days ago and he couldn't pitch today. I don't see him pitching in four or five days." If he can't go, the team will consider pitchers Chad Gaudin, Brad Halsey or Lenny DiNardo to replace him.
