Updating a previous report, a Minnesota Twins official said Tuesday, April 17, that SP Scott Baker (elbow) actually underwent Tommy John surgery, rather than just having surgery to clean scar tissue on a flexor pronator. In addition, the team holds a team option of $9.25 million on Baker next year, and it is unlikely they'll pick it up after Tommy John surgery.

Minnesota Twins SP Scott Baker (elbow) will need to undergo surgery on his right elbow to fix the flexor pronator tendon. Baker will miss the entire 2012 season and will need six months of rehab.

Minnesota Twins SP Scott Baker (elbow) had an MRI on his right elbow, and the results were similar to July 2011. That is when Baker spent 18 days on the 15-day disabled list due to a strained right elbow. He plans to get a second opinion this week in New York. There doesn't appear to be enough structural damage to keep Baker out for a long time, and the doctor feels the same in his second opinion, Baker might be able to resume pitching soon.

Minnesota Twins SP Scott Baker (elbow) underwent an MRI exam on his right elbow Friday, April 6, a day after throwing just 11 pitches with Single-A Fort Myers Thursday, April 5. "He didn't feel right," general manager Terry Ryan said. "When they took him out it was just because he couldn't seem to get loose. That's fine. So we're going to get him an MRI to make sure." Baker was throwing 80-84 mph before being pulled from his outing.

Minnesota Twins SP Jason Marquis is expected to be optioned to Double-A New Britain and SP Scott Baker (elbow) will be placed on the 15-day disabled list to start the season. INF Sean Burroughs and P Jared Burton will likely be added to the opening day roster.
