Rays | Jake McGee makes rehab outing

Wed, 29 Apr 2015 11:26:13 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Jake McGee (elbow, back) tossed a scoreless inning with high-A Charlotte Tuesday, April 28, allowing no hits and striking out none.

Fantasy Tip: McGee is nearing a return to the Rays' bullpen, and he'll do his best to wrestle the ninth-inning duties away from Brad Boxberger, who is a perfect 5-for-5 in save chances and also has two wins. Both relievers should continue to be owned in all formats once McGee returns, as the situation in the ninth could be fluid as they work him back into action.

Rays | Jake McGee will pitch in minors Tuesday

Mon, 27 Apr 2015 12:16:14 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Jake McGee (elbow, back) will make his first minor league rehab appearance with Single-A Charlotte Tuesday, April 28.

Fantasy Tip: McGee is expected to return to the closer role for the Rays when he rejoins the team. There are no guarantees he'll step right back in immediately or keep the job, though. Brad Boxberger has pitched well in his absence (two wins, five saves, 2.16 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 14.0 K/9), after all. Continue to check back for updates on McGee's recovery and his return timeline.

Rays | Jake McGee throws pain-free

Fri, 24 Apr 2015 14:36:54 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Jake McGee (elbow, back) played catch without pain from his stiff back Friday, April 24. McGee said he expects to throw a bullpen session Saturday, April 25. If all goes well, McGee will pitch in a game early next week with Single-A Charlotte, and then he could begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham. McGee is targeting the second week of May for a return to the Rays.

Fantasy Tip: Continue to stash McGee with the expectation he returns to the closer role. However, there are no guarantees he'll step right back in immediately or keep the job. Continue to check back for updates on his recovery and his return timeline.

Rays | Jake McGee has back stiffness

Tue, 21 Apr 2015 13:34:12 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Jake McGee (elbow, back) is dealing with some stiffness in his back, but manager Kevin Cash said it shouldn't be more than a few days until he's throwing again.

Fantasy Tip: McGee is expected to be back with the Rays early next month. However, he may not get a chance to jump immediately back into the closer's role with Brad Boxberger handling ninth-inning duties just fine to begin the year. Nevertheless, McGee deserves a roster spot in all fantasy baseball leagues.

Rays | Jake McGee tosses an inning

Thu, 16 Apr 2015 14:43:35 -0700

Tampa Bay Rays RP Jake McGee (elbow) pitched an inning in an extended spring game Thursday, April 16. Manager Kevin Cash said it went well and the organization will determine the next step in McGee's rehab Friday, April 17.

Fantasy Tip: In McGee's absence, Brad Boxberger has fared well in the closer role, and there is a chance McGee doesn't return and immediately take over the ninth-inning job. McGee is worth stashing, and Boxberger remains a solid source for saves in all formats. Continue to check back for updates on McGee's recovery and return timeline.
