Joe Schad, of the Palm Beach Post, reports free agent RB Robert Edwards (Dolphins), who sat out last season after being cut by the Miami Dolphins prior to the 2004 regular season opener, called Dolphins general manager Rick Spielman on Monday, July 26, and asked for an opportunity to come back. Prior to joining the Dolphins last season, Edwards, a former Pro Bowler, missed two seasons after a knee injury playing beach flag football. "Why I wasn't picked up last season is still a mystery to me," the 29-year-old Edwards said. "Everybody wants to ask about my knee. They can't get past the knee. The knee is fine. I can play. I showed that last year in the preseason. I don't want a handout; just give me a fair shot to compete."

The Miami Herald reports the Miami Dolphins are expected to shop either RBs Robert Edwards or Leonard Henry in return for draft picks. The Dolphins don't plan to keep five running backs, meaning either Henry or Edwards will not make the team if everyone remains healthy. Because the Dolphins believe both have value, they will try to exact a draft pick for one rather than cut him.

The Sun-Sentinel reports that after rushing for 43 yards on six carries during the Miami Dolphins pre-season game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dolphins RB Leonard Henry may have moved ahead of RB Robert Edwards in the competition to become the team's third-down back.
