The New York Yankees say there is "no way" they will sign free-agent 1B Kendrys Morales (Mariners) or SS Stephen Drew (Red Sox), even though they are dealing with a shortage of infielders early this season, according to a source familiar with the team's thinking. "Nobody's signing Drew or Morales, not at the money they're asking," said the source, who requested anonymity. Drew is reportedly looking for a multi-year deal worth $14 million a year, and Morales turned down "multiple contract offers" from the Seattle Mariners over the winter. The Yankees are likely to call up either INFs Russ Canzler or Scott Sizemore from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Canzler is slightly more experienced at first base than Sizemore, who has never played the position in the majors.

Several teams are scouting free-agent 1B Kendrys Morales (Mariners) and SS Stephen Drew (Red Sox), and their markets appear to be heating up. The Baltimore Orioles, Seattle Mariners and Milwaukee Brewers are believed to be interested in Morales. The Pittsburgh Pirates also make sense for Morales. The market is less clear on Drew, but the Detroit Tigers, Toronto Blue Jays, New York Mets, Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees have all been linked to him. However, Yankees officials say the team is "tapped out" right now.
Fantasy Tip: Both Morales and Drew are probably owned in single-universe leagues. But if you are in a deep mixed league, it wouldn't be a bad idea to stash one of them if you have the space.

Free-agent SS Stephen Drew (Red Sox) and 1B Kendrys Morales (Mariners) who share the same agent, Scott Boras, aren't planning to lower their salary demands in order to quickly sign deals before the start of the season. Both players continue to work out six days a week at Boras' training facilities in Florida. Both Drew and Morales could sign after the June draft, when they would no longer be burdened by draft-pick compensation. The Boston Red Sox and Seattle Mariners, their former teams, appear ready to move on without them.
Fantasy Tip: Drew and Morales will likely make an impact with whichever teams wind up signing them, so they are worth drafting and stashing in deep leagues with enough bench spots. They could land on teams before June, too, if a team becomes desperate due to an injury, similar to the situation with Ervin Santana and the Atlanta Braves.

If the Seattle Mariners are able to land a free-agent pitcher at a lower price, such as SP Chris Capuano (Dodgers), that might leave more money to sign a hitter such as free-agent 1B Kendrys Morales (Mariners).
