Giants | Hunter Pence takes live BP

Mon, 06 Jul 2015 04:27:11 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) took live batting practice on Sunday, July 5, for the first time since his wrist injury.

Fantasy Tip: Pence ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) will need more time to recuperate, so feel free to stash him in fantasy leagues and wait for him to recover.

Giants | Hunter Pence won't return before break

Wed, 01 Jul 2015 14:40:03 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) will not return before the All-Star break because he needs to play in rehab games before returning, according to manager Bruce Bochy.

Fantasy Tip: Pence should remained stashed in a DL slot in all leagues, and he can help immediately upon his return sometime at the end of this month. Gregor Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) is the biggest beneficiary of Pence's absence, and he'll remain a sleeper play against certain right-handed pitchers on FantasyScore. Blanco is hitting .315 (40-for-127) with a homer and 12 RBI against righties in 2015.

Giants | Hunter Pence swinging Tuesday

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 14:53:38 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) has been making progress and will resume swinging a bat Tuesday, June 30, while using a fungo bat off a tee.

Fantasy Tip: Pence ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) still has a ways to go before returning to action. Stay patient and continue stashing him everywhere. Until then, Gregor Blanco ($2,000, 4.0% of cap) benefits the most in the San Fran outfield. He's not a bad sleeper option at a cheap price on FantasyScore against certain right-handed pitchers.

Giants | Hunter Pence free from splint

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 16:55:22 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) was re-evaluated Wednesday, June 24, and he no longer requires a splint. However, Pence still cannot begin baseball activities for another five to seven days.

Fantasy Tip: Receiving any fantasy contributions from Pence ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) before the All-Star break is unlikely, and at this point, don't be surprised if his injury lingers and hinders his offense for the majority of the season. Unless you can stash him in a DL slot, there isn't a lot of reason to hold onto Pence in shallow leagues, either. Continue to check back for updates.

Giants | Hunter Pence to wear splint

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 20:53:06 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) will wear a splint on his injured left wrist for the next five to seven days and will not swing a bat.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore players can avoid him until at least the end of the month, if not early July. Wait to see him officially play a game or two without any ill-effects of his injury before trusting him again.

Giants | Hunter Pence not swinging yet

Tue, 16 Jun 2015 16:49:19 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) has not been cleared to swing a bat yet and will not be activated from the 15-day disabled list when he is eligible.

Fantasy Tip: Pence ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) likely will miss a few more weeks, but owners should monitor his rehab to have a better idea on his timetable. Jarrett Parker ($1,700, 3.4% of cap) and Justin Maxwell ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) probably will both see playing time with Pence out, but neither is a must-start option on FantasyScore.

Giants | Hunter Pence update

Sat, 13 Jun 2015 15:31:03 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (forearm) said a bone callous from his previously broken forearm is irritating the tendon in his arm. He won't have any baseball activities for a few days.

Fantasy Tip: Pence could be back after the All-Star break, but this sounds like something that can hinder him the rest of the season.

Giants | Hunter Pence officially on DL

Fri, 12 Jun 2015 13:50:29 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) is being put on the disabled list Friday, June 12.

Fantasy Tip: Pence's DL stint can be backdated to earlier this week, so he may not even need a full 15 days on the sidelines. In the meantime, Justin Maxwell ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) figures to see everyday starts in right field with Gregor Blanco (concussion) also on the shelf. Maxwell has cooled considerably at the plate and should be left alone in daily games.

Giants | Hunter Pence decision coming Friday

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 14:49:03 -0700

Updating a previous report, San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) will visit team doctors Friday, June 12, and a decision on a potential disabled list stint will be made afterwards, according to manager Bruce Bochy. Pence did not do any baseball-related activities Thursday, June 11.

Fantasy Tip: Reiterating previous tips, Justin Maxwell ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) will be the benefactor if Pence ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) misses time. For now, though, hold tight and wait for an official announcement concerning what is next for Pence. NL-only owners could make a speculative Maxwell add now, though.

Giants | Hunter Pence sitting against Mets

Thu, 11 Jun 2015 14:35:50 -0700

San Francisco Giants OF Hunter Pence (wrist) is not in the starting lineup against the New York Mets Thursday, June 11.

Fantasy Tip: Pence ($4,700, 9.4% of cap) is expected to land on the disabled list again, so his lineup absence isn't surprising. Justin Maxwell ($2,100, 4.2% of cap) projects to receive close to everyday at-bats for the duration Pence is out, so NL-only owners could find fleeting value in Maxwell. Continue to check back for an updates on Pence's situation and injury.
