Boston Red Sox 2B Dustin Pedroia's (thumb) surgery to fix a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his left thumb might be more complicated than originally believed. Pedroia underwent an MRI Tuesday, Nov. 5, and a tendon might need to be taken from his wrist and re-attached to his thumb. "I guess because I played with (the injury) the whole year, it's made it a little tougher," Pedroia explained. "If they do the normal surgery, there has to be some good endings (of the ligament) to re-attach it. If there's not, we have to do it a different way." Pedroia said his rehab may be extended a couple of weeks as a result. He expects to be out four to six weeks or six to eight weeks depending on the procedure.
Fantasy Tip: Pedroia's surgery is scheduled for Nov. 12. Expect him to be fine in time for spring training and the regular season in 2014.
