Chicago Cubs INF Blake DeWitt is starting for the second straight day at second base over 2B Darwin Barney Tuesday, May 1, but manager Dale Sveum said Barney is still the starting second baseman. DeWitt is 9-for-25 in his career against Tuesday's starter Cincinnati Reds SP Bronson Arroyo.

The Chicago Cubs purchased the contracts of 2B Blake DeWitt, INF Joe Mather and RP Shawn Camp from the minors Wednesday, April 4. OF Tony Campana and P Casey Coleman were sent to the minors, while P Frankie De La Cruz was outrighted. RP Marcos Mateo (elbow) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a sore right elbow.

Chicago Cubs 1B Bryan LaHair (back) is "50-50" to play on opening day against the Washington Nationals Thursday, April 5. "He's improved a great deal," manager Dale Sveum said. "He'll come in (Thursday), get treatment, do some soft toss and we'll make an evaluation. Then he'll hit a little and if that goes well, we'll put him in the lineup." INFs Jeff Baker and Blake DeWitt are possibilities to replace LaHair.

Chicago Cubs 3B Ian Stewart (quadriceps) took ground balls Friday, March 16, but is listed as day-to-day with a sore right quadriceps. X-rays were negative on INF Blake DeWitt's (hand) right hand after he was hit by a pitch Thursday, March 15. He is day-to-day, too. 2B Darwin Barney (side) felt better Friday after dealing with tightness in his left side.
