Twins | Phil Hughes feeling better

Tue, 29 Sep 2015 13:59:26 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes (illness) played catch and was feeling better Tuesday, Sept. 29. He is hoping he can pitch out of the bullpen Wednesday, Sept. 30.

Fantasy Tip: It remains to be seen if Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) will make one more start this season sometime this weekend. However, even if he does, he'd be a weak FantasyScore play coming off an illness.

Twins | Tommy Milone starting against Cleveland

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:14:30 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tommy Milone is starting against the Cleveland Indians Monday, Sept. 28, in place of SP Phil Hughes (illness).

Fantasy Tip: Milone ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) owns a 5.72 ERA through 11 appearances in the second half with an unattractive 6.6 K/9. FantasyScore players should view him as nothing more than a contrarian flier for contests Monday.

Twins | Phil Hughes scratched from start

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 13:08:28 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes (illness) will not start against the Cleveland Indians Monday, Sept. 28. SP Tommy Milone will start in place of Hughes against Cleveland Monday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) in all fantasy formats Monday, and there is no telling what is next for him. View him as a desperation hold in seasonal leagues at this stage of the game. Milone ($5,600, 11.2% of cap), similarly, isn't a strong option for FantasyScore players Monday. He owns a 5.72 ERA through 11 appearances in the second half.

Twins | Plan for Phil Hughes unclear

Thu, 17 Sep 2015 14:47:08 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes will not start during the current homestand, but he might pitch out of the bullpen this weekend, according to manager Paul Molitor. Molitor noted there is currently no concrete plan for Hughes.

Fantasy Tip: The Twins' next road game is Friday, Sept. 25, so unless things change, you can't count on Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) in seasonal leagues for the next week. At best, it appears he will make two more starts this season, and he isn't worth holding onto in the majority of seasonal leagues.

Twins | Phil Hughes scratched from next start

Wed, 16 Sep 2015 17:14:26 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Tyler Duffey will start in place of SP Phil Hughes Sunday, Sept. 20, according to general manager Terry Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) allowed three runs on six hits over three innings in a loss to the Detroit Tigers Tuesday, Sept. 15, in his first start since coming off the disabled list due to a back injury. Manager Paul Molitor said he wasn't sharp and had difficulty keeping the ball down. Duffey ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) has allowed three runs or fewer in each of his last six starts and has four quality starts over that stretch, so he could be worthy of consideration as a value option in FantasyScore.

Twins | Phil Hughes starting Tuesday

Tue, 15 Sep 2015 09:20:43 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes (back) was activated from the 15-day disabled list Tuesday, Sept. 15, and he will start against the Detroit Tigers. The Twins are expected to limit Hughes to 75 to 80 pitches in his first start back.

Fantasy Tip: It would be a mistake to rely on Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) tonight on FantasyScore in his first start back, especially since there's a good chance he won't even factor into the decision with a limited pitch count.

Twins | Phil Hughes may return next week

Sat, 12 Sep 2015 05:37:13 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes (back) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Saturday, Sept. 12, and could rejoin the starting rotation Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Fantasy Tip: Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) has not pitched since August 9 and could be on a pitch count when he returns to the rotation. Owners on FantasyScore may want to see Hughes pitch in a game before considering him an option.

Twins | Phil Hughes throws sim game

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 22:54:49 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes (back) tossed 45 pitches in a simulated game Wednesday, Sept. 9, and then he was able to field bunts and do some pitcher's fielding practice.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain when Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) will be able to return, so FantasyScore plays need to avoid him until he can officially return and prove his health in at least one full start.

Twins | Phil Hughes continues to progress

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 15:48:24 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes (back) said his 45-pitch simulated game and 15-pitch bullpen session went well Wednesday, Sept. 9. The next step in Hughes' rehab is currently unknown.

Fantasy Tip: Without a return timeline, and only at 60-pitch workload, Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) should be viewed as nothing more than a desperation stash by seasonal players. There is really no reason to hold on in the majority of leagues, and even if he does return, he'll be an extremely risky start, especially at FantasyScore.

Twins | Phil Hughes throws bullpen

Thu, 03 Sep 2015 11:09:44 -0700

Minnesota Twins SP Phil Hughes (back) threw a successful 35-pitch bullpen session without setbacks Thursday, Sept. 3. He plans to throw another bullpen of around 40 to 45 pitches Sunday, Sept. 6, and then move to a simulated game next week. Hughes is still hoping he'll be able to return to the rotation before the end of the season, but he also noted that his back won't be fully healthy until the offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Using a less-than 100% healthy Hughes ($5,600, 11.2% of cap) for what could be a handful of starts down the stretch in any fantasy format wouldn't be recommended.
