Twins | Glen Perkins doesn't close Friday

Sat, 29 Aug 2015 05:34:59 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) pitched a scoreless seventh inning and recorded two strikeouts during the Twins 3-0 win over the Houston Astros Friday, Aug.28. RP Kevin Jepsen recorded his ninth save of the season after allowing two hits and a walk in the final frame.

Fantasy Tip: There are a few potential explanations, as Perkins' status was a little iffy entering the game, which is one reason why he may have not been used in the ninth inning. Another could be Perkins' 6.75 ERA over 12 innings since the All-Star break. Seasonal owners may want to let Jepsen's leash out a little longer with the hope he receives more closing opportunities down the stretch. Though, it is likely Perkins returns to the closer role sooner than later.

Twins | Glen Perkins a game-time decision

Thu, 27 Aug 2015 14:26:53 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) could return to pitch against the Tampa Bay Rays Thursday, Aug. 27, if needed.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins last appeared Sunday, Aug. 23, and it isn't out of the question for him to have another evening off Thursday, either. Continue to hold him in all formats. Kevin Jespen has pitched in five consecutive games, so if there is an available save opportunity Thursday, expect Trevor May or Casey Fien to receive a chance.

Twins | Glen Perkins unavailable

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 22:28:36 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) was unavailable for the game Wednesday, Aug. 26, against the Tampa Bay Rays due to lower back spasms. "It's not going to be long," Perkins said. "It kind of locked up on me on Sunday. I think today we got over the hump."

Fantasy Tip: With Perkins sidelined it was Kevin Jepsen, formerly of the Rays, nailing down the save. He is worth adding in AL-only fantasy leagues as insurance for Perkins' owners.

Twins | Glen Perkins wins in return

Sun, 23 Aug 2015 17:02:51 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (neck) pitched a scoreless inning in his first action since Aug. 17, picking up the win against the Baltimore Orioles.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins did allow two hits, but as long as he doesn't have a setback following Sunday's outing, he should be back closing games sooner rather than later.

Twins | Glen Perkins could return next week

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 11:19:32 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (neck) is hoping to play catch Friday, Aug. 21, or Saturday, Aug. 22, and return by Tuesday, Aug. 25, at the latest. He said his neck is feeling much better.

Fantasy Tip: With Perkins out, Kevin Jepsen will assume the role of ninth-inning stopper for the Twins. Even with the short-term bullpen promotion, Jepsen deserves to be picked up in all leagues for those still searching for saves.

Thu, 20 Aug 2015 13:14:51 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (neck) received two injections for a bulging disc in his neck Thursday, Aug. 20, and he's feeling much better.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins must rest at least a few days now to see if the shots relieved his pain. He could be out until early next week. Kevin Jepsen will fill in as the closer in the meantime. Pick him up immediately if you need help in saves in your league.

Twins | Glen Perkins to receive shot

Wed, 19 Aug 2015 10:19:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (neck) will receive a cortisone shot in his neck Wednesday, Aug. 19, and he's tentatively scheduled to rejoin the team against the Baltimore Orioles. Perkins' MRI results are not known yet.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins will at least miss a handful of games, if not more. Kevin Jepsen will serve as the team's closer in the meantime. Because Perkins' injury could eventually put him on the DL if he doesn't improve, Jepsen should be added in all formats now.

Twins | Glen Perkins struggling

Sun, 02 Aug 2015 18:24:08 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins has allowed at least one run in four of his six appearances since the All-Star break after allowing just five runs in 38 appearances before the break.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins isn't in danger of losing his closing duties just yet, but if his downward trend continues, the Twins could be forced to make a move.
