Twins | Glen Perkins won't throw Monday

Sun, 22 May 2016 08:43:40 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) will not throw his scheduled bullpen session Monday, May 23, after suffering a setback while playing long toss recently.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins will return to the ninth-inning role as soon as he is activated from the disabled list, so he should remain stashed in all fantasy formats. Kevin Jepsen will continue serving as Minnesota's interim closer, although he has been somewhat shaky recently, so Trevor May could see some save opportunities as well.

Twins | Glen Perkins nearing bullpen session

Wed, 11 May 2016 10:56:32 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) threw off flat ground for the fourth time Wednesday, May 11, and he's scheduled to throw his first bullpen session May 23. He'll continue to throw off flat ground and do some long toss. Perkins has been feeling better and has noticed a difference in his shoulder the last week. However, there remains no timetable for his return, but he looks to be on track for early to mid June if everything goes well. Perkins is also expected to need a rehab assignment before returning.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins is expected to return to the closing role when he's ready, so keep him stashed everywhere. Kevin Jepsen has filled the ninth-inning role, but he's been shaky of late, including a loss last night. Trevor May is the better long-term bet to see save chances, and he should be owned regardless in deeper leagues for his 12.8 K/9 rate.

Twins | Glen Perkins still not close

Tue, 10 May 2016 23:52:02 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) has resumed playing catch, he is still not close to returning from a strained left shoulder. He has been on the 15-day disabled list since April 13.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins should be avoided by all fantasy owners until he can officially return and work through a couple of appearances without any setbacks.

Twins | Glen Perkins begins throwing program

Sun, 08 May 2016 17:16:00 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) has been playing catch from 60 feet, but a return date is still to be determined.

Fantasy Tip: Kevin Jepsen has been shaky as the closer, so Perkins will likely reclaim the role at some point after he returns. If you have the roster space, feel free to hang on to him.

Twins | Glen Perkins building strength

Mon, 02 May 2016 14:31:03 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) is still strengthening his injured left shoulder.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins went on the disabled list weeks ago, and it turns out his injury was worse than the team initially thought. When he's built up enough strength in his shoulder, he'll be able to begin a throwing program. In the meantime, Kevin Jepsen will continue to close games, though he's been shaky at times thus far in the interim.

Twins | Glen Perkins not close to throwing

Fri, 29 Apr 2016 14:52:09 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) hasn't given any indications that he's close to resuming throwing, according to manager Paul Molitor.

Fantasy Tip: Continue stashing Perkins everywhere, but this looks like an extended absence, especially after injuries came up for him at the end of each of the last two seasons. Kevin Jepsen remains the ninth-inning man for now, but he's already blown two saves recently. Trevor May, who has 20 K's in just 12 1/3 innings, is likely the better long-term bet for saves in Minnesota if Perkins remains sidelined.

Twins | Glen Perkins doesn't need surgery

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 09:48:36 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) will not need surgery after seeking a second opinion on his shoulder. Perkins remains a few weeks away from pitching, though.

Fantasy Tip: That's good news for Perkins and the Twins, but his owners will need to be patient, as he won't be back when his DL stint is up. Kevin Jepsen, who had two saves over the weekend, should now be owned everywhere. Trevor May is a consolation prize and may be the better long-term bet for saves if Perkins has a setback.

Twins | Glen Perkins hopeful to be ready

Fri, 15 Apr 2016 07:06:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) is hopeful to be ready to return when he's eligible April 26, but it might be a couple of days after that, according to general manager Terry Ryan.

Fantasy Tip: Kevin Jepsen is expected to close games in Perkins' absence. Trevor May has electric numbers, but he pitched in the eighth inning of a 3-1 deficit Thursday. That perches Jepsen up a bit more. Own Jepsen if you're looking for saves, but May is worth owning for K's and ratios.

Twins | Glen Perkins lands on DL

Wed, 13 Apr 2016 08:23:39 -0700

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (shoulder) was placed on the 15-day disabled list Wednesday, April 13, with a strained left shoulder. RP Taylor Rogers is expected to come up from the minors.

Fantasy Tip: Kevin Jepsen figures to be the first up for closing duties with Trevor May the next in line. Jepsen isn't a real secure option as he allowed three runs in his first two outings. May has 10 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. If possible, grab both of them. However, May adds more punch than Jepsen if he's given the chance.

Twins | Glen Perkins encouraged with rehab

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 15:41:38 -0800

Minnesota Twins RP Glen Perkins (back) is encouraged by his offseason workouts with a core specialist, and he has been long tossing in Florida. There are no lingering neck or back issues for him.

Fantasy Tip: Perkins managed 32 saves last year but struggled in the second half, mainly because of his injury. But that's two straight years with rugged finishes, and the lefty could be in decline at age 32. Grab Kevin Jepsen as a handcuff if Perkins finds his way onto your fantasy roster.
