Minnesota Twins LHP Glen Perkins will have his $6.5 million option for 2018 declined, the team announced Wednesday, Oct. 18. The Twins will instead pay Perkins a buyout of $700,000.

Minnesota Twins LHP Taylor Rogers could be the favorite to succeed Washington Nationals RHP Brandon Kintzler as the Twins' next closer. Rogers was Minnesota's primary setup man behind Kintzler. Other candidates to close games include old closer LHP Glen Perkins, who is dealing with a shoulder injury, RHP Trevor Hildenberger, RHP Matt Belisle and RHP Ryan Pressly, according to Derek Wetmore of 1500espn.com. Wetmore names John Curtiss as a dark horse closer option.

Minnesota Twins LHP Glen Perkins (shoulder) is demonstrating "slight improvement" over the velocities he showed during a series of bullpen sessions last month, according to manager Paul Molitor. In a simulated game Tuesday, June 13, Perkins was clocked regularly at 85-89 mph on the radar gun.
