Twins | Trevor Plouffe rehab update

Wed, 27 Apr 2016 17:01:58 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (intercostal) is expected to begin a two-game rehab assignment with Class A Fort Myers Saturday, April 30.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe has been sidelined because of a strained right intercostal muscle and should be viewed as a low-end option at the hot corner in most seasonal leagues. INF Eduardo Nunez has received the bulk of the playing time at third base for Minnesota in his absence, although 3B/OF Miguel Sano has also seen action there on days when he isn't starting in right field.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe progressing on schedule

Mon, 25 Apr 2016 14:32:36 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (intercostal) could be activated from the disabled list when eligible Tuesday, May 3, according to manager Paul Molitor. Molitor also noted Plouffe is doing well during baseball activities.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe has been hitting off a tee and fielding, which highlights his solid progress during his recovery. He is a low-end option at the hot corner in the majority of seasonal leagues, but you know what you're getting from the veteran at this point. He can deliver 65 runs, 20 home runs and 80 RBI, and over the past four seasons, he has returned a .248/.312/.426 slash line. Stay tuned for updates as he continues to work his way back from the injury.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe placed on DL

Tue, 19 Apr 2016 09:09:39 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (intercostal) was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right intercostal muscle Tuesday, April 19. SS Jorge Polanco was recalled from the minors in a corresponding move.

Fantasy Tip: It's unfortunate for Plouffe, as he was heating up with 10 hits in 23 at-bats with a home run in his last six games. For those that need corner infield insurance, he's worth stashing in cavernous mixed and AL-only leagues. Eduardo Nunez, who is hitting .545 (12-for-22) in the early going, figures to see a boost in playing time and can be added for those desperate in deep mixed leagues.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe to go on DL

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 17:09:20 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (intercostal) is expected to be placed on the disabled list prior to the team's game Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: Horrible timing for Plouffe, who had compiled three consecutive multi-hit efforts to get his average up over the .300 mark prior to going down with injury. With him sidelined, this creates an opening for Eduardo Escobar to get more regular playing time, though he's someone better suited for AL-only leagues. This injury should also ensure more starts for Eduardo Nunez.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe feeling better

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 14:41:34 -0700

Updating a previous report, Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (intercostal) said he is feeling a little better Monday, April 18. The team likely will make a decision on Plouffe's status by Tuesday, April 19.

Fantasy Tip: There is a chance that Plouffe will be placed on the disabled list, so owners should have a backup ready to use. Eduardo Nunez likely would see most of the work at third base while Plouffe is out and could be a short-term option in deeper leagues.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe, Eddie Rosario out

Mon, 18 Apr 2016 14:28:42 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (intercostal) and OF Eddie Rosario are not in the starting lineup against Milwaukee Brewers SP Chase Anderson Monday, April 18. SS Eduardo Nunez will start at third base and is batting first, while OF Oswaldo Arcia will start in left field and is batting fifth.

Fantasy Tip: Nunez has picked up six hits and one RBI in his last three games and could be an attractive option in daily fantasy leagues. Arcia has five hits, one home run and three RBI in the last two games and could also be used in daily leagues.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe hurt during three-hit game

Sun, 17 Apr 2016 15:49:25 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (rib) went 3-for-4 with an RBI double on Sunday, April 17, but appeared to injure himself while running the bases in a win against the Los Angeles Angels. He was diagnosed with an intercostal strain and has been listed day-to-day.

Fantasy Tip: The Twins' initial plan is to wait and see how Plouffe feels over the next few days before deciding whether or not he needs a stint on the disabled list. He went 8-for-12 in this series and was beginning to show signs of leaving his slow start behind him, so this news comes as a bummer. Red-hot Eduardo Nunez moved over from shortstop once Plouffe left the game and is worthy of a short-term pickup in deeper leagues.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe not starting

Sun, 10 Apr 2016 10:21:41 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Edinson Volquez Sunday, April 10. SS Eduardo Nunez will start at third base and is batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: Nunez is receiving his first start of the season and has seen only one plate appearance in four games. He is probably only valuable to AL-only owners and should be avoided in mixed leagues.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe to hit cleanup

Fri, 25 Mar 2016 15:54:14 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe, who clubbed two home runs in the spring game Friday, March 25, is set to be the team's cleanup hitter to open the year, according to manager Paul Molitor. Plouffe leads the team this spring with four home runs.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe doesn't make enough contact to help you in the average department, but his power is for real, and he should be targeted near the end of mixed league drafts for that reason. Hitting in the middle of the Twins order will only help his cause.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe staying put

Sat, 30 Jan 2016 10:04:41 -0800

Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan said the organization did not entertain trade offers for 3B Trevor Plouffe or make him available to other teams this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe had been rumored to be on the trading block because 3B/OF Miguel Sano was expected to serve as the Twins' primary third baseman in 2016, before the club ultimately decided to move him to right field. Plouffe is capable of hitting 20 homers and driving in 80 runs but his mediocre batting average and on-base percentage will keep him from being a viable starting option in most mixed fantasy leagues.
