Twins | Trevor Plouffe staying put

Sat, 30 Jan 2016 10:04:41 -0800

Minnesota Twins general manager Terry Ryan said the organization did not entertain trade offers for 3B Trevor Plouffe or make him available to other teams this offseason.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe had been rumored to be on the trading block because 3B/OF Miguel Sano was expected to serve as the Twins' primary third baseman in 2016, before the club ultimately decided to move him to right field. Plouffe is capable of hitting 20 homers and driving in 80 runs but his mediocre batting average and on-base percentage will keep him from being a viable starting option in most mixed fantasy leagues.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe avoids arbitration

Mon, 25 Jan 2016 12:06:51 -0800

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe re-signed a one-year deal to avoid arbitration Monday, Jan. 25. Financial terms were undisclosed.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe has topped 20 home runs twice in his career, and he has driven in at least 80 runs in consecutive seasons. The issue lies in his .248/.312/.426 slash line over the past four years, and at a deep fantasy position, he doesn't project as a starting option in the majority of seasonal leagues. View him as a late-round flier in deep mixed leagues.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe on block?

Sun, 15 Nov 2015 13:53:19 -0800

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe could be on the trading block this offseason with the signing of Korean 1B Byung-ho Park. Plouffe would be replaced by 3B Miguel Sano.

Fantasy Tip: All indications are Plouffe would be a goner if this situation occurs, and it would likely be to a place where he could get some playing time. His draft status will depend on a trade. If he's still in Minnesota when spring camp opens, Plouffe will go way down.

Twins | Miguel Sano to see lion's share at third

Thu, 05 Nov 2015 10:23:48 -0800

Minnesota Twins 3B Miguel Sano could play a maximum of 40 games at designated hitter next season, according to manager Paul Molitor. 3B Trevor Plouffe won't be an option in left field.

Fantasy Tip: Sano will be in the top couple of tiers at third entering drafts next season. Plouffe could be the DH often, but he seems to be without a position right now. What the team does this offseason will make his fantasy value more clear.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe out of lineup Sunday

Sun, 04 Oct 2015 12:15:10 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe is not in the starting lineup against Kansas City Royals SP Johnny Cueto Sunday, Oct. 4. INF Eduardo Nunez is playing third base and batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: With the Twins eliminated from the playoff picture, Nunez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) gets a chance to play the hot corner Sunday. He is batting .281 with four home runs and 20 RBIs through 185 at-bats this year.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe back with a bang

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 22:46:37 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (illness) returned to the lineup Monday, Sept. 28, against the Cleveland Indians. He hit a two-run home run in four at-bats, snapping an 0-for-12 slide.

Fantasy Tip: It appears safe to get Plouffe ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) back into the FantasyScore lineup now that he has proved his health.

Twins | Illness going around Twins clubhouse

Mon, 28 Sep 2015 15:51:07 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe and RPs Brian Duensing and Kevin Jepsen have been affected by a virus going around the team's clubhouse in recent days, according to manager Paul Molitor. SP Phil Hughes (illness) was scratched from his start Monday, Sept. 28.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is in the lineup tonight as the Twins push for the wild card. He has only three hits in his last 23 at-bats since Sept. 20, though, so you may want to fade him in your daily lineups, especially while facing Cleveland Indians ace Corey Kluber this evening.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe out with illness

Sun, 27 Sep 2015 07:50:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe (illness) is not in the starting lineup Sunday, Sept. 27. SS Eduardo Nunez is starting at third base and batting sixth against Detroit Tigers SP Randy Wolf Sunday.

Fantasy Tip: Make sure to avoid Plouffe ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) in all fantasy formats Sunday, and check back for an update on the severity of his illness. Nunez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) owns a reverse split and is actually a better hitter against right-handed hurlers. However, this is a great spot to tee up some savings at FantasyScore with Nunez, as Wolf ($3,200, 6.4% of cap) owns a 5.91 ERA through his six starts this season.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe goes deep twice

Sat, 12 Sep 2015 05:20:29 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe went 3-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI against the Chicago White Sox Friday, Sept. 11.

Fantasy Tip: Plouffe ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) is hitting .273 with two home runs and six RBI this month and has at least one hit in four of his last five games. Owners could consider Plouffe as a cheaper option at the position.

Twins | Trevor Plouffe sitting out vs. Royals

Wed, 09 Sep 2015 15:27:57 -0700

Minnesota Twins 3B Trevor Plouffe is not in the starting lineup Wednesday, Sept. 9. SS Eduardo Nunez is starting at third base and is batting sixth against Kansas City Royals SP Kris Medlen Wednesday.

Fantasy Tip: Nunez ($1,800, 3.6% of cap) has been sneaky good against righties this season with a .315/.353/.454 slash line over 117 plate appearances. He is also then a sneaky FantasyScore play Wednesday, especially at his low cap hit. Plouffe ($3,400, 6.8% of cap) has really slumped since the All-Star break with a .206/.271/.388 slash line, and at this point, he is nothing more than a cavernous mixed and AL-only option.
