Mets | Yoenis Cespedes, Neil Walker homer

Mon, 23 May 2016 21:59:49 -0700

New York Mets OF Yoenis Cespedes and 2B Neil Walker each went 2-for-4 with one home run and one RBI against the Washington Nationals Monday, May 23.

Fantasy Tip: Cespedes and Walker rank one and two in home runs among the team so far this season and should continue to be in the middle of the lineup. Both players should be starting option in all leagues at this point.

Mets | Dominic Smith not an option

Mon, 23 May 2016 16:47:42 -0700

New York Mets 1B Dominic Smith, the team's first-round pick in 2013, is not a candidate to be promoted to the major leagues with 1B Lucas Duda (back) injured, according to manager Terry Collins. Smith is only 20 years old and has less than two months of experience at Class AA. 2B Dilson Herrera was also considered for a call-up, but shifting 2B Neil Walker to first base wasn't an option.

Fantasy Tip: Smith should be watched in dynasty and keeper formats for the time being. Smith is hitting .272 (44-for-162) with four home runs and 31 RBI for Class AA Binghamton this year.

Mets | Neil Walker in recent slump

Tue, 17 May 2016 12:18:04 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker hit .300 with nine home runs and a .638 slugging percentage in his first 20 games this season. In the past 15 games Walker has hit .208 with one homer and a .313 slugging mark.

Fantasy Tip: Is Walker in a slump that will cost him significant playing time this season? That isn't likely. His bat has just cooled off, something that happens to the best of hitters. Still, you may want to steer clear of Walker in daily fantasy leagues for the moment until he works out of his slump. If you have Walker in a keeper or annual league, don't panic. He's still hitting .266-10-20 with 34 hits in 128 at-bats and is worth keeping around.

Mets | Neil Walker hits 10th bomb

Sun, 15 May 2016 06:09:10 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker went 3-for-4 with a solo home run during the Mets' 7-4 loss to the Colorado Rockies Saturday, May 14.

Fantasy Tip: Walker has been an excellent fantasy contributor to start the season with 16 runs, 10 home runs, 20 RBI and a .272/.316/.528 slash line. Continue to view him as a solid starter at the keystone in all fantasy formats. Just note, though, he has only topped 20 home runs once during his career, so it would be surprising to see him suddenly approach or surpass the 30-homer mark. Still, he is more than well on his way.

Mets | Neil Walker back in the lineup

Wed, 11 May 2016 15:33:14 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (shin) is in the starting lineup against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Kenta Maeda Wednesday, May 11, and is batting sixth.

Fantasy Tip: Walker did not start in the last few games because of a shin injury, which makes him a risky option in most leagues. He has gone hitless in his last seven games, so owners probably should pass on him in daily fantasy leagues.

Mets | Neil Walker to return Wednesday

Tue, 10 May 2016 16:14:06 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (shin) is nursing a badly bruised right shin, but he's expected to return to the starting lineup Wednesday, May 10.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets are facing another lefty tonight, so it makes sense to rest Walker one more day. With him still out, Wilmer Flores starts at the keystone again. Flores has some pop for a middle infielder, but he's yet to realize it this year, hitting only .170 with a one home run and two RBI in 47 at-bats. He's a deep sleeper pick in daily leagues.

Mets | Neil Walker targeting Wednesday return

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:56:56 -0700

Updating a previous report, New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (shin) is targeting a return to the lineup Wednesday, May 11, against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Fantasy Tip: Walker hasn't started since Saturday, though he was able to enter Sunday's game as a pinch hitter. This indicates that he should be fine upon his return, so owners should get ready to plug him in again whenever he's back on the field. In the meantime, Wilmer Flores is filling in at second base, but hasn't gotten going yet this season.

Mets | Neil Walker out of lineup again

Mon, 09 May 2016 16:48:37 -0700

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker (shin) is not in the lineup Monday, May 9, against Los Angeles Dodgers SP Scott Kazmir. SS Wilmer Flores is starting in his place and batting seventh.

Fantasy Tip: It's the second straight game out for Walker, who was able to enter the game on Sunday as a pinch hitter, so this certainly isn't some sort of severe injury. Despite a breakout season last year, Flores has been extremely disappointing for the Mets in 2016, albeit as a part-time player, as he has just seven hits in 44 at-bats. He's not worth adding anywhere.

Mets | David Wright, Neil Walker take a seat

Sun, 08 May 2016 12:26:41 -0700

New York Mets 3B David Wright and 2B Neil Walker (shin) are not in the lineup on Sunday, May 08, against San Diego Padres SP Andrew Cashner. SS Asdrubal Cabrera will move up into Wright's usual second spot in the order, while 3B Eric Campbell will take a turn at third base and bat eighth. INF Wilmer Flores draws the start in place of Walker and hit sixth.

Fantasy Tip: It's a rest day for Wright, but Walker is sitting out as a result of taking a few foul balls off of his shin on Saturday. Campbell and Flores are both batting below .200 and should be avoided in DFS as well as regular fantasy formats.

Mets | Michael Conforto, Neil Walker sitting

Fri, 06 May 2016 16:45:52 -0700

New York Mets OF Michael Conforto and 2B Neil Walker are not in the starting lineup against San Diego Padres left-handed SP Drew Pomeranz Friday, May 6. OF Juan Lagares is starting in center field and is hitting second, while SS Wilmer Flores is at the keystone and is batting seventh. OF Yoenis Cespedes shifts to left field.

Fantasy Tip: Flores is the more attractive daily gamble as a deep sleeper because of his power abilities, but neither he nor Lagares will be considered by many tonight against Pomeranz.
