Mets | Neil Walker avoids arbitration

Fri, 29 Jan 2016 13:21:53 -0800

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker re-signed a one-year, $10.55 million contract to avoid arbitration Friday, Jan. 29.

Fantasy Tip: Through six full seasons in the league, Walker has averaged 67 runs, 16 home runs, 70 RBI and a .273/.338/.433 slash line per year, and more of the same should be expected in his first campaign with the Mets. He is a low-risk option as your starting second baseman in mixed leagues, and he can be scooped up in the late middle rounds.

Mets | Neil Walker files for arbitration

Sat, 16 Jan 2016 11:30:49 -0800

New York Mets 2B Neil Walker has filed for salary arbitration. He is seeking a one-year deal worth $11.8 million while the team has countered with a $9.4 million offer.

Fantasy Tip: Walker is a midrange option at the keystone position who is capable of hitting 15-20 homers and driving in 60-70 RBIs per season. He should be selected in the middle rounds of all fantasy formats.

Pirates | Jon Niese headed to Pittsburgh

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 12:38:41 -0800

The Pittsburgh Pirates acquired SP Jon Niese from the Pittsburgh Pirates Wednesday, Dec. 9, in exchange for 2B Neil Walker.

Fantasy Tip: Niese was a swing man for the Mets last year as they brought in their impressive youngsters to the rotation. He figures to be much of the same for the Bucs, although he might have a better shot sticking in the rotation. He doesn't do anything particularly well for fantasy owners, so he's more of an NL-only target for depth. The departure of Walker may allow both Jung Ho Kang and Jordy Mercer to play together in the middle infield.

Mets | Neil Walker traded to Mets

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 12:33:02 -0800

The New York Mets agreed to acquire Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker in exchange for SP Jon Niese Wednesday, Dec. 9.

Fantasy Tip: The acquisition of Walker assures that Daniel Murphy won't return to Flushing. Walker has some pop and can approach 15 home runs if he stays healthy. He won't offer his fantasy owners much else and is more of a midrange second base target on draft day. The departure of Niese could spur the Mets to attempt re-signing Bartolo Colon.

Mets | Jon Niese expendable?

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 11:11:24 -0800

The New York Mets have discussed trading SP Jon Niese to the Pittsburgh Pirates in exchange for 2B Neil Walker, according to a baseball source. Niese had a 4.13 ERA in 176 2/3 innings last season.

Fantasy Tip: Niese is a back-of-the-rotation arm that would mainly be a commodity in deeper mixed and NL-only leagues. Walker seems destined to be traded this winter and is more of a midrange fantasy second baseman with some intriguing power.

Orioles | Baltimore out on Neil Walker

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 10:44:15 -0800

The Baltimore Orioles broke off talks with the Pittsburgh Pirates for 2B Neil Walker when they failed to gain traction on him.

Fantasy Tip: Walker still has plenty of trade suitors, including the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, Washington Nationals, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets. It seems all but certain at this point he'll be deal, as he's no longer in Pittsburgh's plans. Stay tuned for where he lands.

MLB | Two more teams on Neil Walker

Wed, 09 Dec 2015 10:43:03 -0800

The Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets are also interested in Pittsburgh Pirates 2B Neil Walker. Walker is expected to make $10 million through arbitration next year and will be a free agent after the 2016 season. The Pittsburgh Pirates have already told Walker he isn't in their long-term plans.

Fantasy Tip: The Mets are interested after losing out on Ben Zobrist. Walker is a nice midrange fantasy second baseman with the ability to hit double-digit home runs over a full season, but other than he won't do much for your squad.
