Tigers | Vintage Justin Verlander in victory

Wed, 26 Aug 2015 21:24:55 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander lost a bid for his third no-hitter in the ninth inning Wednesday, Aug. 26, against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. He settled for a one-hit shutout.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander's ($6,900, 13.8% of cap) outing was, by far, his best of the season. He faced just one batter over the minimum. It was his seventh shutout, and first in over three years. FantasyScore players should be encouraged by Verlander's performance, especially against a quality offense, but give him at least one more start to prove he has turned it around before trusting him again.

Tigers | Justin Verlander solid in loss

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 20:09:17 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed one earned run on four hits and struck out eight in a 2-0 loss to the Texas Rangers Friday, Aug. 21.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has allowed one earned run or less in five of his last six starts, and he has struck out seven or more four times during the same stretch. He will still have the occasional dud, but if the matchup is right, Verlander can be well worth his price tag at FantasyScore.

Tigers | Justin Verlander has been solid

Fri, 21 Aug 2015 09:07:38 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander has given up one earned run in five of his last seven outings. However, the Tigers are just 2-9 in his 11 starts this season.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) is no longer the dominant pitcher he once was with Detroit, as evidenced by his 6.9 K/9 rate this year. He hasn't allowed any runs in his last two starts. He'll surely be a risk/reward starting pitcher tonight against the Texas Rangers, though, as they are in the top 10 in OPS against right-handed pitchers this year.

Tigers | Justin Verlander solid Sunday

Sun, 09 Aug 2015 18:12:23 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed four hits and two unearned runs while striking out seven in 6 2/3 innings in a no-decision against the Boston Red Sox Sunday, Aug. 9.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has allowed one earned run or less in four of his last six starts, but he has allowed 12 runs combined in his other two starts. He isn't a safe play by any means, but for the price, he is worth taking a chance on at FantasyScore against weaker opponents.

Tigers | Justin Verlander roughed up in loss

Tue, 04 Aug 2015 19:22:06 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed five runs on 10 hits while striking out five batters during the Tigers' 5-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals Tuesday, Aug. 4.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) had allowed just two earned runs while striking out 13 hitters through 16 innings over his past two starts, but the solid run ended abruptly Tuesday. In fairness to Verlander, the Royals are a tough draw, and fantasy owners should have viewed him as a risky start. Going forward, it would be wise to avoid Verlander outside of favorable matchups, especially at FantasyScore.

Tigers | Justin Verlander earns first win

Wed, 29 Jul 2015 12:42:34 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed one run on four hits in eight innings against the Tampa Bay Rays Wednesday, July 29, to record his first win of the season. He struck out 10 batters and did not walk any batters during the game.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) has allowed one run or fewer in three of his last four starts. He is scheduled to face the Kansas City Royals in his next start and may not be the best option for owners on FantasyScore.

Tigers | Justin Verlander shelled

Sun, 19 Jul 2015 16:27:44 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed seven runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Baltimore Orioles Sunday, July 19.

Fantasy Tip: After giving fantasy owners hope with a solid start prior to the All-Star break, Verlander ($5,000, 10.0% of cap) was rocked Sunday. His ERA is up to 6.62, and he is hard to trust at FantasyScore at any price.

Tigers | Justin Verlander hit hard

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 17:42:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed seven runs on seven hits in five innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) now owns a 6.75 ERA in four starts this season, and he has managed just 12 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings. He is not pitching well enough to be used at FantasyScore right now.

Tigers | Justin Verlander solid in no-decision

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 22:27:02 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed three runs - two earned - and six hits with five walks over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday, June 30, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also struck out three batters.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,300; or 10.6% of cap) still has the potential to be a solid FantasyScore option most nights, but he needs to re-gain his control.

Tigers | Justin Verlander eyeing Tuesday

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 11:52:39 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (back) is hoping to make his next start Tuesday, June 30, and his back has improved.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) would be set up to face the Pittsburgh Pirates at home next Tuesday if he doesn't suffer any setbacks before then. After his first two starts left plenty to be desired, it's smart to stay away from him for at least one more turn through at FantasyScore.
