Tigers | Justin Verlander hit hard

Sun, 05 Jul 2015 17:42:12 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed seven runs on seven hits in five innings in a loss to the Toronto Blue Jays Sunday, July 5.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,300, 10.6% of cap) now owns a 6.75 ERA in four starts this season, and he has managed just 12 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings. He is not pitching well enough to be used at FantasyScore right now.

Tigers | Justin Verlander solid in no-decision

Tue, 30 Jun 2015 22:27:02 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed three runs - two earned - and six hits with five walks over six innings in a no-decision Tuesday, June 30, against the Pittsburgh Pirates. He also struck out three batters.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,300; or 10.6% of cap) still has the potential to be a solid FantasyScore option most nights, but he needs to re-gain his control.

Tigers | Justin Verlander eyeing Tuesday

Fri, 26 Jun 2015 11:52:39 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (back) is hoping to make his next start Tuesday, June 30, and his back has improved.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) would be set up to face the Pittsburgh Pirates at home next Tuesday if he doesn't suffer any setbacks before then. After his first two starts left plenty to be desired, it's smart to stay away from him for at least one more turn through at FantasyScore.

Tigers | Justin Verlander's injury not serious?

Wed, 24 Jun 2015 09:25:40 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (back) isn't believed to be dealing with a serious injury, and the Tigers are taking a cautious approach with the pitcher since he got off to a late start to the season after suffering a triceps injury in spring training. Manager Brad Ausmus is unsure when Verlander will make his next start, but the team is hoping he'll only miss one turn through the rotation, and it's possible he could start this weekend against the Chicago White Sox. Verlander gave up six runs in 6 2/3 innings in his last start against the New York Yankees last Friday.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,500, 11.0% of cap) has not looked sharp in his two starts this season, posting a 6.17 ERA with just four strikeouts in 11 2/3 innings. If he does only miss one start, you'll want to hold off from using him on FantasyScore until he shows better results and proves he's fully healthy.

Tigers | Justin Verlander scratched for Wed.

Tue, 23 Jun 2015 20:39:44 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (back) has been scratched from his scheduled start Wednesday, June 24, against the Cleveland Indians due to back stiffness. SP Buck Farmer will come up from Triple-A Toledo to start in Verlander's place.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander has had a trying season, missing a huge chunk due a triceps issue and now this. Avoid him in FantasyScore until he can officially return and prove his health in a full start or two without any setbacks.

Tigers | Justin Verlander struggles Friday

Fri, 19 Jun 2015 19:37:10 -0700

In his second start since coming off the disabled list, Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (0-1) allowed six runs on 10 hits over 5 2/3 innings in a loss to the New York Yankees Friday, June 19, with one walk and two strikeouts.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($5,100, 10.2% of cap) threw 117 pitches and topped out at 95 mph, a few miles per hour less than he displayed in a recent rehab start for Class AAA Toledo. He allowed three home runs but on a positive note, he appeared to have good movement on his fastball. His next start will come against the Cleveland Indians next week.

Tigers | Justin Verlander strong in debut

Sun, 14 Jun 2015 06:00:38 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander allowed two runs over five innings and left with the lead in his season debut Saturday, June 13, against the Cleveland Indians. Verlander reached as high as 97 mph on the radar gun, and he exited the game with his pitch count at 87.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) allowed two walks and struck out just two batters. FantasyScore owners will need to see higher strikeout rates from the former MVP before reinvesting.

Tigers | Justin Verlander to start Saturday

Tue, 09 Jun 2015 13:35:58 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (triceps) will make his season debut against the Cleveland Indians Saturday, June 13, according to manager Brad Ausmus.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) will be making his season debut after suffering a triceps injury in spring training. Check to see if he's still available in your league, as he could make for a decent matchup play if he can stay healthy. At FantasyScore, you'll want to avoid him for at least this first time out.

Tigers | Justin Verlander ready for return

Sun, 07 Jun 2015 05:14:40 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (triceps) allowed four hits, zero walks and one run over 5 2/3 innings with nine strikeouts Saturday, June 6, in what was likely his final rehab start for Class AAA Toledo. Verlander said it's up to the Tigers what the next step will be.

Fantasy Tip: Verlander ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) is yet to pitch in the majors this season, but he is worth an add in AL-only and deep mixed leagues. Owners will need to have modest expectations for Verlander after subpar seasons in 2013 and 2014. FamtasyScore owners should wait to see a couple effective performances from the former MVP before they invest.

Tigers | Justin Verlander on a pitch count

Sat, 06 Jun 2015 11:04:11 -0700

Detroit Tigers SP Justin Verlander (triceps) is expected to throw 85 to 90 pitches in his second rehab start for Class AAA Toledo Saturday, June 6. If all goes well, he could be activated from the disabled list next week.

Fantasy Tip: Manager Brad Ausmus has not yet announced which day Verlander ($4,400, 8.8% of cap) will start once he rejoins the rotation. He could be asked to open a three-game series against the Cleveland Indians Friday, June 12, which would give him five days of rest. Regardless of when he pitches again, FantasyScore owners should resist the temptation to use him immediately, so that he can prove that he is both healthy and effective.
