Cleveland Indians SP Jeremy Sowers (shoulder) had surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff Monday, Feb. 7, MLB.com's Jordan Bastian reports. He's out nine to 12 months and will rehab at home instead of with the team this spring.

The Associated Press reports Cleveland Indians SP Jeremy Sowers gave up six earned runs, five hits and two walks in over an inning of work Tuesday, March 23. He has been hit hard in two outings after being sidelined early with a strained shoulder, but Sowers is out of options and the team would have to expose him to waivers in order to send him down. There is a chance he could be used in relief duty should Sowers make the club.

It appears likely that he will open the season on the disabled list so he can be stretched out as a starter.

Cleveland Indians P Jeremy Sowers (shoulder) threw a simulated session Saturday, March 13, and is hoping to begin appearing in Cactus League games by the end of this week, according to MLB.com's Anthony Castrovince. Sowers is uncertain if he is still competing for a spot in the team's bullpen. "The main concern was getting healthy, then worrying about everything else," he said. "We're getting close to that spot. I still have some hurdles to pass over, in terms of building up my workload. It's too soon to tell how my arm will respond to the stress of game situations."

SP Jeremy Sowers (shoulder) is no longer in the running for the competition because he has not progressed far enough in his recovery from left shoulder soreness.
