Reds | Homer Baily needs to build endurance

Thu, 23 Apr 2015 15:11:46 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey was physically fine in his second start against the Milwaukee Brewers Thursday, April 23, but manager Bryan Price said Bailey needs to build his endurance up. Bailey allowed seven hits and two earned runs while walking one and striking out three in 5 2/3 innings.

Fantasy Tip: Bailey ($5,200, 10.4% of cap) looked much better in his second start of the year, albeit against an injury-depleted Brewers lineup Thursday. It's still encouraging progress, though. However, you'd be smart to continue avoiding him at FantasyScore until he's up to speed.

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (forearm) threw a bullpen session Wednesday, April 15, and he is expected to start Saturday, April 18, against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Fantasy Tip: Since the start of the 2012 season Bailey is just 4-5 with a 4.52 ERA in 11 starts against the Cardinals with an opponent batting average of .301, highest of any team he has faced (min. 12 innings). FantasyScore owners would be well advised to avoid this difficult matchup.

Reds | Homer Bailey faces minor leaguers

Fri, 27 Mar 2015 15:52:15 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (elbow) allowed a run and three hits in three innings of work against minor leaguers Friday, March 27, and he walked two and struck out four. It was Bailey's second spring outing after coming back from elbow surgery last September. Bailey is focused on getting ready for the regular season, and he is feeling really good. He threw all of his pitches in the outing Friday. The Reds expect Bailey to miss one or two starts in April.

Fantasy Tip: Bailey was pretty solid in 2014 before he was shut down with the elbow ailment. He'll come at a very nice value in drafts this year in the later rounds, and he could return excellent value as a top-end starting pitcher at the end of 2015.

Reds | Homer Bailey should be back in April

Wed, 25 Mar 2015 16:20:52 -0700

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (elbow) is on track to return by late April, according to manager Bryan Price.

Fantasy Tip: Last year, Bailey ($6,400, 12.8% of cap) pitched well after the month of May and before his season ended due to injury in August. When healthy, Bailey has top-30 starting pitcher upside. Draft him expecting slightly less since he is coming off an injury.

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 12:08:28 -0800

Cincinnati Reds SP Homer Bailey (forearm) threw 20 pitches during a bullpen session Friday, Feb. 27, and said his forearm felt good.

Fantasy Tip: Bailey is expected to miss the first several weeks but should be ready for most of the regular season if he does not suffer any setbacks. Owners should consider selecting Bailey in the middle rounds of fantasy drafts if he does not have any problems during spring training.
