The Houston Astros have designated SP Philip Humber for assignment. In a corresponding move, the team has signed free-agent SP Edgar G. Gonzalez (Blue Jays) to a major league contract. Gonzalez will be in uniform Sunday, May 12, when the Astros play the Texas Rangers.

Houston Astros SP Philip Humber will be moved to the bullpen with SP Dallas Keuchel taking his spot in the starting rotation. Keuchel will start against the Texas Rangers Friday, May 10, and SP Erik Bedard will make the start Saturday, May 11.

Fantasy Tip: Keuchel pitches to contact and won't give fantasy players many strikeouts. On the positive side, he doesn't walk many hitters, either, but he's not very attractive outside of AL-only formats. The matchup against the Rangers should probably be avoided at all costs.

Houston Astros SP Bud Norris will be the team's opening day starter against the Texas Rangers March 31. SP Lucas Harrell will pitch April 2, followed by SP Philip Humber.

Fantasy Tip: Norris flies under the radar in the group of midrange fantasy starting pitchers, and his move to the American League West will probably scare even more folks away. His skill set is solid, though, despite a rise in ERA last season.

Houston Astros SP Philip Humber appears to be a lock for a rotation spot after throwing a 73-pitch, four-inning simulated game Monday, March 18, against minor leaguers.

Fantasy Tip: Humber isn't a wise selection for your fantasy rotation unless you're in a very deep NL-only league. His second-half skill's collapse is concerning and will probably carry over into this season. There are plenty of more intriguing starting pitching options out there.

Houston Astros SP Philip Humber showed impeccable control of his fastball by tossing four strong innings Thursday, March 7. "I threw my fastball where I wanted to throw it," he said. "I threw four-seamers, two-seamers, and I think that helped things a little bit."
