Updating a previous report, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (elbow) said Friday, May 17, that he felt good after his four-inning simulated game. He said he is ready to begin a minor-league rehab assignment.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (elbow) and RP Ryan Madson (elbow) are continuing their rehab and are close to rejoining the team. Manager Mike Scioscia said Weaver will need at least two more rehab outings starting next week. Madson will need at least one more appearance either Wednesday, May 15, or Thursday, May 16.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver threw an 80-pitch bullpen session today, which is very encouraging. His injury is to his non-throwing elbow, so he's just focusing on building strength in his pitching arm. If you're desperate for saves, it's not a bad idea to grab Madson if he's on your waiver wire, even though he'll initially serve as Ernesto Frieri's setup man.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (elbow) threw off the mound for the first time since his injury Thursday, May 9, and tossed 28 pitches, which were all fastballs at around 90 percent intensity. Weaver said he felt "great."

Fantasy Tip: Mike Scioscia said recently that Weaver is more than two weeks away from returning, however. The good news is that his injury doesn't affect his throwing arm, so by the time he returns, he should at full strength in terms of his pitching arm.

Fantasy Tip: You'll have to continue to be patient with Weaver, even though his injury isn't to his throwing arm. A return at the end of this month is more likely since he'll probably need several rehab outings to regain arm strength needed.

Fantasy Tip: Weaver's injury was to his non-throwing arm, so his rehab work now will just be to build up arm strength in order to rejoin the rotation. He's getting close to a return, so be prepared to deal with his activation on your fantasy roster.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (elbow) played catch from 120 feet Thursday, May 2. Manager Mike Scioscia said he needed to throw from 200 feet and be able to repeat it before he progresses to mound work.

Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim SP Jered Weaver (elbow) is throwing from flat ground on a nearly daily basis, and he backed up to more than 100 feet Wednesday, May 1. Manager Mike Scioscia said Weaver is "very excited" with how his elbow feels.

Fantasy Tip: There is still no timetable for when Weaver can return to the mound, and after that he would start a minor-league rehab assignment. Keep him reserved in all fantasy leagues.
