Updating a previous report, the Jacksonville Jaguars signed free agent P Mark Royals (Dolphins) to a contract. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. Royals will handle the punting duties and hold for placekicks.

NFL | Royals to Undergo Surgery

The Sun-Sentinel reports free agent P Mark Royals (knee) said he will have procedures to remove loose tissue from his knee and a cyst growing behind it. Released Sept. 29 by the Miami Dolphins, Royals never disclosed his knee problem while still under contract. He is expected to recover in about a month and hopes to continue his 15-year career.

Miami Dolphins P Mark Royals struggled Sunday, Sept. 21, for the second time in three games, prompting the Dolphins to bring in free-agent punters for workouts Tuesday, Sept. 23. Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt, though, said Royals is safe for the Sunday, Oct. 5 game against the New York Giants.

The Sun Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt said Dolphins P Mark Royals (knee) may return to the lineup for the Friday, August 15 pre-season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Royals, who has a cyst behind his right knee and hasn't kicked this week, will try to kick before the game and a decision will be made, Wannstedt said.
