Boston Red Sox SS Stephen Drew had an RBI single and three-run home run Monday, July 21, against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Fantasy Tip: Drew entered the game with just five RBI all season, so Monday's output was a pleasant surprise. He is earning a hefty paycheck, and hasn't come close to earning his salary. However, he has the potential for nights like these, and baseball is a game of averages. If he starts to even out over the course of the next two months his fantasy owners could be treated to an extended hot streak.

Boston Red Sox SS Stephen Drew had a pair of hits Friday, July 18, against the Kansas City Royals. He entered the game batting .158 in 29 games since joining the team in late May, and he raised his average to .167 after the two-hit effort.
Fantasy Tip: Drew has been a huge disappointment after signing a lucrative deal after the start of the season. Perhaps the All-Star break was just what he needed to get his game on track. He'll need a few more games like this one before he can be depended upon in anything more than the deepest of AL-only fantasy leagues.

The Boston Red Sox could consider trading SS Stephen Drew if he starts producing at the plate in the next few weeks.

Boston Red Sox 3B Xander Bogaerts may still play shortstop in 2014, but the club wants to get him right at the plate before considering it. The likeliest scenario for him playing shortstop would be against a left-handed pitcher.
Fantasy Tip: A lot depends on the status of Will Middlebrooks (finger), where Brock Holt will play, and whether they still value Stephen Drew (maybe he'll be traded). Bogaerts isn't starter-worthy right now in most mixed leagues.

Boston Red Sox 3B Brock Holt is starting at shortstop in place of SS Stephen Drew Wednesday, July 9.

Boston Red Sox SS Stephen Drew and OF Jackie Bradley Jr. are both sitting out Wednesday, July 2, with the team facing a left-handed pitcher. OF Mookie Betts is starting in center and OF Jonny Gomes is in left. SS Jonathan Herrera is at shortstop.
Fantasy Tip: Make sure Drew and Bradley are out of your lineups.

Boston Red Sox SS Stephen Drew snapped a hitless streak of 29 consecutive at-bats with a seventh-inning double against the New York Yankees Friday, June 27. He is batting .135 entering play Saturday, June 28.

Boston Red Sox 3B Xander Bogaerts was dropped to seventh in the order Tuesday, June 24.
Fantasy Tip: He has been struggling of late (5-for-52 stretch) and, while it's hard to think he'll lose playing time because of his top-prospect status, he's not doing himself any favors as Will Middlebrooks (finger) inches toward a return. At least SS Stephen Drew is stuck in the mud, too, so that provides hope Bogaerts will remain in the lineup.

Two-thirds of the Boston Red Sox lineup could be trade bait if the decision is made to junk the season and retool for 2015. Players mentioned for possible trades included CL Koji Uehara, C A.J. Pierzynski, OF David Ross, SS Stephen Drew, SP Jake Peavy and OF Jonny Gomes.

Boston Red Sox 3B Will Middlebrooks (finger) will see some work in the outfield while he is on a rehab stint. Middlebrooks is likely to lose playing time in the infield thanks to the combination of SS Stephen Drew, 3B Xander Bogaerts and 2B Brock Holt.
