Padres | Huston Street has groin strain

Mon, 03 Mar 2014 15:29:47 -0800

San Diego Padres RP Huston Street (groin) is dealing with a minor groin pull and is being pushed back.

Fantasy Tip: This injury shouldn't compromise his ability to be ready by opening day, but it does remind owners that Street is oft-injured. Joaquin Benoit is solid handcuff option and will likely be the first to step in for saves if Street misses time during the season.

Padres | Joaquin Benoit to pitch the eighth

Thu, 20 Feb 2014 13:46:08 -0800

San Diego Padres RP Joaquin Benoit is expected to be the eighth-inning setup man to RP Huston Street this year. Benoit will also provide insurance to Street in case he's injured and misses time.

Fantasy Tip: Benoit can remain a worthy fantasy player to own, especially as a handcuff to the oft-injured Street. NL-only leaguers probably wouldn't mind him gracing their roster, either, for his valuable peripherals that should look nicer at PETCO Park.

Padres | Not looking to move Huston Street

Wed, 18 Dec 2013 20:02:29 -0800

Despite the signing of RP Joaquin Benoit, the San Diego Padres are not actively looking to move CL Huston Street.

Fantasy Tip: Benoit and Street are likely to battle for the closer's job in 2014. Whoever emerges as the winner will be a strong fantasy play. The Padres aren't likely to blow out many teams, so there will be plenty of save opportunities.

Padres | Luke Gregerson to see early-week save chances

Sun, 15 Sep 2013 15:52:01 -0700

San Diego Padres RP Luke Gregerson will fill-in as the team's closer for at least the first two games of the upcoming week with RP Huston Street (personal) away from the team to attend his grandmother's funeral.

Fantasy Tip: Gregerson remains a strong play in all rotisserie formats for help in the ERA and WHIP categories, and now he might be able to chip in with a save or two, too.

Padres | Huston Street to be unavailable

Sun, 15 Sep 2013 15:46:21 -0700

San Diego Padres RP Huston Street (personal) will be unavailable for the next two days, as he will be in Texas to attend his grandmother's funeral. RP Luke Gregerson will fill in if save situations arise

Fantasy Tip: It's a good idea to reserve Street for the upcoming week, as at best Street will be available for five games.

Padres | Huston Street on fire lately

Fri, 23 Aug 2013 21:12:05 -0700

San Diego Padres RP Huston Street had a 4.15 ERA at the All-Star break, but he has converted nine straight save chances heading into action Friday, Aug. 23, and he has not allowed a run in his past 15 appearances. He has gotten more break on a slider that was flat earlier this season. His ERA is all the way down to 3.02. "That's the key to his turnaround, the slider," manager Bud Black said Friday. "He's done a nice job the last month of getting his slider back to where the spin needs to be."

Padres | Huston Street tweaks slider grip

Fri, 26 Jul 2013 10:02:13 -0700

San Diego Padres pitching coach Darren Balsley had RP Huston Street start using a different grip on his slider that would generate a tighter spin and a sharper break to the pitch. Street has been using the new slider a lot recently, and he hasn't given up a run in his last six outings.
