Mon, 13 May 2013 15:39:24 -0700 Updating a previous report, New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) is dealing with a mild strain of the flexor pronator in his right elbow. He'll rest for 72 hours before trying to throw again.
Mon, 13 May 2013 13:22:42 -0700 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) has no structural damage in his right elbow after visiting with doctors. He will rest a few days and resume throwing. Fantasy Tip: This is good news for Francisco, but it reminds fantasy owners speculating for saves that Francisco is nowhere near a lock to be given a chance to re-enter the ninth-inning picture in New York. Bobby Parnell is locked into the closer's role currently, and it'll take full health from Francisco and a major meltdown for him to relinquish the job any time soon.
Sun, 12 May 2013 11:26:40 -0700 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) missed a bullpen session Saturday, May 11, because of discomfort in his right elbow. Manager Terry Collins said he will visit a doctor this week.
Fri, 10 May 2013 13:08:19 -0700 New York Mets RP Jeurys Familia (biceps) is dealing with biceps tendonitis and won't pitch Friday, May 10. The team thinks the issue was brought on by fatigue, and his fastball was clocked at only 92 mph instead of 96 mph in his last outing. RP Frank Francisco (elbow) could return from the disabled list soon if Familia needs to go on the DL. Fantasy Tip: Francisco's return isn't too off, regardless. Target Francisco in NL-only leagues and very deep mixed formats if you're speculating for saves. He won't take over Bobby Parnell's job immediately, but he could down the road.
Wed, 08 May 2013 14:11:55 -0700 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) tossed another scoreless inning for Single-A St. Lucie Wednesday, May 8, and didn't allow a hit while walking two and striking out two. He hasn't given up a run in five innings for St. Lucie and has allowed one hit while striking out six. Fantasy Tip: Bobby Parnell will remain the club's closer, at least initially, upon Francisco's return to the team. Terry Collins is leaving the door open for Francisco to reclaim the closer's role, but it might take a hiccup from Parnell for him to get that chance. Saves speculators should consider adding Francisco soon.
Tue, 07 May 2013 15:02:30 -0700 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) has pitched back-to-back days with Single-A St. Lucie and is closer to returning from the disabled list. He should have at least another outing in the minors. "Frankie has got to show us that he can pitch back-to-back days up here -- that he's strong enough," manager Terry Collins said. "We're talking three days in a row. Can he do that? The one thing I don't think we're ready to do is start to juggle our bullpen at this particular moment when Bobby has done such a good job. We'll wait until Frankie gets here to make those determinations." Francisco is within 10 days of returning from his 30-day rehab assignment.
Tue, 07 May 2013 13:09:25 -0700 New York Mets RP Bobby Parnell will remain the team's closer when RP Frank Francisco (elbow) returns, according to manager Terry Collins. However, Parnell will remain closer at least until Francisco gets into some major league games and gets back in the swing of things. Fantasy Tip: It looks as though Collins is leaving the door open for Francisco to eventually pitch his way back into the closer's role if he can regain some confidence. After all, the Mets are paying him closer money. However, that might take some time, and it'll depend on Parnell's performance, as well. For now, Francisco should only be considered in NL-only leagues and those desperate enough to speculate in mixed formats.
Mon, 29 Apr 2013 16:20:34 -0700 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) reportedly threw 15 pitches in an intrasquad game Monday, April 29. Fantasy Tip: Keep tabs on Francisco's rehab in deep mixed leagues. It might be getting close to the time to pick him up in deep NL leagues if you're hurting for saves. Just keep in mind that Francisco has no guarantee of pitching in the ninth inning again after Bobby Parnell has taken the job.
Wed, 17 Apr 2013 13:36:19 -0700 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) will pitch an inning with Single-A St. Lucie Wednesday, April 17, beginning his official rehab assignment.
Mon, 15 Apr 2013 16:28:26 -0700 New York Mets RP Frank Francisco (elbow) will start a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie Tuesday, April 16, according to a team source. Fantasy Tip: The oft-injured Francisco has become a forgotten man in New York thanks to his most recent injury. His recovery process has been very slow, and the team has no reason to rush him now that they have placed Bobby Parnell in the closer's role. Francisco has a long road back before he's pitching in meaningful innings in relief. There is no guarantee he'll even have a chance to reclaim the closer's job, either.
