Updating previous reports, ESPN.com reports the Miami Dolphins have placed OT Mark Dixon (ankle) on injured reserve, effectively ending his season. Dixon has not played in any of the Dolphins games this season, and has participated in only 12 of the Dolphins last 30 regular-season contests because of persistent injuries.

MiamiDolphins.com reports Miami Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt was very disappointed OT Mark Dixon (ankle) was unable to be activated for Week 8 because of a lingering ankle injury. "I was very disappointed that he wasn't active last week," Wannstedt said. "That was the plan. Mark will be in tomorrow morning. We need to make a decision here. He can either do it or he can't do it. If he can't do it, then we need to start looking at a younger player and not kid ourselves. I think he wants to do it. This week, I think we are at the crossroads. We need to go one direction or other at this point and not be talking every week and nothing happening."

Updating previous reports, Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports Miami Dolphins OT Mark Dixon (ankle) is targeting next week, Sunday, Oct. 26, as a comeback date to make his 2003 season debut. Dixon has been suffering from a nagging ankle injury that has sidelined him so far this season. ''Hopefully this is the last one I'll have to miss,'' Dixon said in reference to Week 7. "I'm pretty confident now. It has taken as long as we needed to take, and the right things have been done to give me a chance from here on out.''

"Today, I would say yes, he probably is (a starter)," Wannstedt said of Smith. "The way he's played the past two weeks, we have confidence in him lining up and starting. He's proven he can get the job done."
