Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo said the club has prioritized field goal accuracy with their place kicker ahead of kickoff ability. "The main thing for a field goal kicker is to make field goals, particularly once you're inside the 40," Angelo said. "That's the No. 1 critical trait that you look for. Very few kickers are going to be able to do both. You have to declare what you want at that position and we want a guy that can make the field goals." The club has PKs Doug Brien, Paul Edinger, Nick Setta, Tyler Jones and Nick Novak competing for the place-kicking duties this year.

Larry Mayer, of ChicagoBears.com, reports with the recent signing of PK Doug Brien, the Chicago Bears will likely have five place kickers in training camp competing for the job. Brien will join incumbent PK Paul Edinger, who missed an NFL-high nine field goal attempts last season, and undrafted agent PKs Tyler Jones and Nick Novak. PK Nick Setta, allocated by the Bears to NFL Europe, may also gain a training camp invitation. Though kickoff distance will be a factor in the competition, the Bears will be looking for the kicker who can best convert field goal attempt.
