Sams was found guilty of a lane violation, which carries a $90 fine and one point on his driving record.

Sams tried to catch a punt at the goal line, but the ball slipped through his hands. Luckily for Sams, the ball bounced out of the back of the endzone for a touchback. Sams had another mistake in the preseason when he fielded a punt inside the 5-yard line. Head coach Brian Billick wasn't as forgiving the second time around, saying, "B.J., you can't make a mistake like that. We'll continue to bring focus to it. He's not a rookie anymore, so our expectations are much more demanding in terms of him. That's a critical error, and we can't make that kind of mistake."

Sams, who was arrested and charged with drunken driving early Monday, Aug. 15, is fully healed from a hamstring injury. "People make mistakes," Sams said Thursday, Aug. 18, speaking about the incident for the first time. "I'm just going to go out and play my game."
Mon, 15 Aug 2005 20:50:11 -0700 The Associated Press reports Baltimore Ravens RB/KR B.J. Sams was arrested and charged with drunken driving after a traffic stop early Monday morning, Aug. 15. The trooper who made the stop saw signs that Sams had been drinking, and after further investigation, Sams was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, negligent driving and speeding. Police would not say whether Sams took a breath test or what the results of any such tests were.
