Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports unrestricted free agent LB Scott Galyon (Miami) told Miami Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt he plans to retire from the NFL after playing seven years. Galyon, 29, is having trouble with his injured left knee.

Todd Archer, of the Palm Beach Post, reports for The Sporting News that the Miami Dolphins likely will spend at least one mid-round pick on a linebacker after releasing backup Twan Russell and watching backup Scott Galyon test the market as an unrestricted free agent. The club also would like competition for WLB Derrick Rodgers.

Galyon is expected to miss at least six weeks, although coach Dave Wannstedt is optimistic that he can play with a cast. The coach also added he expects to keep Galyon on the active roster.
