Dolphins | Dyer Agrees To Injury Settlement

Updating previous reports, Armando Salguero, of the Miami Herald, reports the Miami Dolphins have agreed to a three-game injury settlement with RB Deon Dyer (groin). Dyer can re-sign with the Dolphins after the ninth week, but it is unlikely that he will. Dyer, an unrestricted free agent, and his agent have been trying to sign with another team. The Dolphins attempted to trade Dyer to the Houston Texans during the preseaon, but he failed his physical and was released.

The Houston Chronicle reports Houston Texans FB Deon Dyer joined the Texans after being acquired in a trade with the Miami Dolphins on Tuesday, Aug. 19. The Dolphins received a conditional seventh-round pick in 2004. Dyer, who sat out the Dolphins' first two pre-season games with a groin injury, was still trying to get his bearings as the Texans prepared to practice Wednesday, Aug. 20.

The Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins have reached an agreement on a trade with the Houston Texans that would send FB Deon Dyer to the Texans for what is believed to be a conditional 2004 seventh-round draft pick. The trade will be complete pending Dyer passing a physical with Houston.

Updating previous reports, Alex Marvez, of the Sun-Sentinel, reports the Miami Dolphins are shopping FB Deon Dyer (groin), but have found no takers so far, according to an NFL source. The Dolphins are expected to make a roster move involving Dyer once he returns to practice from a groin injury. Dyer has lost his backup fullback spot to Dolphins FB Obafemi Ayanbadejo.

The Miami Herald reports the addition of FB Obafemi Ayanbadejo to the Miami Dolphins backfield complicated matters a little bit as the Dolphins now have 3 fullbacks on roster in Ayanbadejo, Rob Konrad and Deon Dyer. Head coach Dave Wannstedt said a lot will be determined by how Konrad responds during camp and he noted the team isnít going to give him a free pass. The team could keep all three fullbacks, but theyíre more than likely just to retain two.

Miami Dolphins.com reports FB Deon Dyer and DT Ernest Grant underwent surgery Wednesday. Dyerís first surgery was to remove bone spurs and loose bodies that resulted from his right hand fracture sustained during the pre-season. The second surgery was to remove a loose body and debride Dyerís right shoulder joint. Grant underwent surgery to remove multiple loose bodies and debride his right shoulder joint.

He likely will be replaced by FB Deon Dyer against Atlanta. DT Jermaine Haley (calf), RB J.J. Johnson (calf) and RG Todd Perry (knee) also didnít practice Wednesday. Coach Dave Wannstedt said Perry is expected to practice today.

The Sun-Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins FB Deon Dyer won his appeal to have his $5,000 fine dropped for a play against the St. Louis Rams. During the game with the Rams, Rams LB London Fletcher was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct, but the league also fined Dyer after reviewing the play. He appealed and won his case.

The Miami Herald reports Miami Dolphins FB Deon Dyer is planning to appeal a $5,000 fine he received for his altercation with Rams LB London Fletcher, who also was fined $5,000. Fletcher was called for a 15-yard penalty after ripping Dyer's helmet off. "I hope they take a serious look at it, because I didn't do anything to the man," said Dyer, who accused Fletcher of trying to gouge his eyeballs. Dyer gets his second start this week in relief of the injured Rob Konrad.

The Sun-Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins FB Rob Konrad (ankle) is still doubtful for Sunday's game, but Konrad is still hopeful he'll be healthy enough to get into the game. Konrad said he was going to start jogging today but things have been a little slower than anticipated. Konrad will be replaced in the starting line-up by Deon Dyer.

Alex Marvez reports for the Sun-Sentinel with Miami Dolphins FB Rob Konrad out with an ankle injury, Deon Dyer gets the call as the starter. However, TE Jed Weaver will see action at fullback in passing situations. He did so last week after Konrad was injured. "Jed really did a good job," said Dolphins coach Dave Wannstedt, who has given Weaver repetitions at fullback in this week's practices. Weaver, who has tried to improve his strength and blocking from last season, is the only tight end on the roster to have caught a pass this season.

The Sun-Sentinel reports Miami Dolphins FB Deon Dyer is ready for his first NFL start this Sunday. Dyer drew the attention of his teammates when he laid a great block on a Raiders linebacker Sunday, without a helmet. Because of the play, Dyer, who is expected to start Sunday against the St. Louis Rams in place of Rob Konrad (sprained left ankle), got an applause from his teammates. According to Joel Collier, the Dolphins running back coach, Dyerís hitting prowess has been a constant since his rookie season. He's shown improvement this year too.

The Palm Beach Post reports Miami Dolphins S Shawn Wooden's injured hamstring likely will keep him out until the preseason finale against Minnesota. FB Deon Dyer will have a different cast placed on his fractured hand this week and should resume practice next week. Coach Dave Wannstedt said he doesn't expect backup RT Anthony Cesario (knee) to be ready for the regular season.

Rookie QB Josh Heupel had a second opinion on his left wrist: no surgery, and wait a couple of weeks for the range of motion to return. S Shawn Wooden (hamstring) will not practice on Wednesday. RB Lamar Smith (back) is expected to practice on Wednesday.
