Broncos | Peyton Manning has connection with Wes Welker

Tue, 21 May 2013 09:36:38 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning already feels like he has some chemistry with WR Wes Welker. "There's certain guys you just feel like you have timing with right away," Manning said. "He's a guy that has a great feel for how to get open, and understands route concepts and, of course, he played in such a sophisticated offense there in New England, so he's a smart player." The Broncos used three-receiver sets 64 percent of the time last year, but expect that to increase dramatically as they look to create mismatches in the opposing defenses.

Fantasy Tip: This is good news for the Broncos, but for those in point-per-reception leagues, don't expect Welker to add 100-plus catches again with Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker in the picture. Welker should still be very productive, but he may no longer be a WR1 in those formats.

Broncos | Wes Welker doesn't expect to carry load

Tue, 21 May 2013 09:28:44 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker knows that with WRs Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker in the picture on his new team, he won't be catching as many passes like he did in his career with the New England Patriots. "If I have to catch 112 balls, that probably means we're in trouble," Welker said. During organized team activities Monday, May 20, QB Peyton Manning showed excellent chemistry with Thomas and Decker, but he also involved Welker some. Welker is on board with having a smaller workload, but Manning knows the benefit of adding Welker to the offense. "He's just been an extremely difficult guy to cover one-on-one, and then you can tell by watching him on film - he's an extremely smart player," Manning said. "He has an excellent feel for zone coverage. This is just the beginning stages of him getting comfortable in this offense, and he and I getting on the same page."

Fantasy Tip: Wide receiver targets in Denver this year will be tough to predict, especially at this juncture. They figure to air it out plenty, and all three wideouts will be valuable for fantasy purposes, but it might be a week-to-week difference on which receiver busts out based on matchups.

Broncos | Wes Welker making an impact

Mon, 20 May 2013 16:08:27 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker is already making an impression on the Denver Broncos as he is trying to get on the same page with QB Peyton Manning. "Wes and I will continue to work and try to get on the same page," Manning told reporters on Monday. "I thought we had excellent production last year at the slot out of [WR] Brandon Stokley and adding Wes as a new player - we're looking forward to getting on the same page."

Fantasy Tip: There is still plenty of time for Manning and Welker to get on the same page as the summer goes on and training camp approaches. Welker should have the same fantasy value with the Broncos as he did with the Patriots and should be drafted accordingly.

Broncos | Tavarres King to stretch the field

Tue, 07 May 2013 10:53:17 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Tavarres King, their fifth-round draft choice, has speed as his biggest asset, and he figures to add field-stretching ability to a stable of wide receivers - Wes Welker, Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker - that is best known for their short to intermediate passing contributions. King may see some playing time for this reason as another option for QB Peyton Manning. "As a receiver I'm a guy that gets deep in a hurry, (I) led the FBS in yards per catch last year with 22. (I'm) somebody that you guys are going to be able to depend on, somebody who will do exactly as Peyton says," King said. "Peyton's going to put me in a position to succeed."

Fantasy Tip: The Broncos may have one of the most prolific offenses and aerial attacks in 2013 if Manning can stay healthy. They will be very dynamic, that's for sure, and King could add another dimension. However, with so many mouths to feed in the passing game, it's highly unlikely King sees enough field time to be fantasy-worthy.

Broncos | Jacob Tamme happy with Wes Welker addition

Sun, 05 May 2013 11:49:53 -0700

Denver Broncos TE Jacob Tamme said he is happy that the team added WR Wes Welker this offseason and is not worried about how his production could be affected. "People ask me, 'Is it going to affect you?' All that sort of stuff," Tamme said. "I never really worried much about all that. Wes is awesome. It's great to have him here. It's been great to get to know him the past few days. He's going to be a great addition to our team. We have a lot of guys that can do a lot of different things. I'm going to do whatever they ask me to do."

Broncos | Peyton Manning excited to work with Wes Welker

Mon, 15 Apr 2013 18:19:14 -0700

Denver Broncos QB Peyton Manning is excited to be working with WR Wes Welker. "Certainly he's made a lot of plays in New England," Manning said. "He's been great in the red zone. You've seen him catch a lot of touchdowns from Tom [Brady]. The two of them have had great timing -- and that developed over time as well. I don't think you can just say, 'Hey, we're going to have that right away.' It's going to take time. Of course, you want to try to get on the same page as quickly as possible. It was important to start the workouts we got in last week and use these what we call Phase One and Phase Two and minicamps and OTAs and training camp -- every repetition with him will be important. I think he provides some unique things. He has unbelievable quickness, he's excellent with the ball in his hands on those little screen passes. You've seen him get upfield quickly, and I've always thought he's had a nose for the end zone."

Tue, 19 Mar 2013 05:34:31 -0700

The agency that represents Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker released a statement Tuesday, March 18, saying the New England Patriots made just one offer to Welker during free agency, a "take it or leave it" proposition that left them no alternative but to go on the market and shop for a deal elsewhere. "Specifically, both sides are clear that the Patriots made one offer to Wes Welker since the prior negotiations ended in July 2012," the statement read. "Both sides also agree that this two-year offer came just hours before the start of free agency despite discussions that began at the NFL (Scouting) Combine. Moreover, this lone offer was presented as a 'take it or leave it offer.' When we asked if there was room for structural changes, we were told no."

Broncos | Agree to terms on Wes Welker

Wed, 13 Mar 2013 13:51:53 -0700

The Denver Broncos have agreed to terms with WR Wes Welker on a two-year, $12 million deal.

Fantasy Tip: With Peyton Manning throwing the ball to Welker, it is likely his fantasy value will not change much, but it'll be difficult for him to approach 100 catches with Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker in the picture. Still, he should be a very effective slot receiver for point-per-reception leagues.
