Broncos | Wes Welker not committing to Week 3

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 14:06:08 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker feels great physically and is ready to return to the team, but he stopped short of committing to playing in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks. "That's a coach's decision," Welker said. " ... I'm preparing like I'm going to play." Welker was back on the practice field Wednesday, Sept. 17.

Fantasy Tip: Welker has been physically cleared and is going through the game plan with the team this week, so we'd expect him to suit up against the Seahawks. You won't have to worry about Welker at FantasyScore this week, since he's not eligible, but plan to return him to your standard lineups if he's active.

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 13:31:24 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker will return to the slot receiver position in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks, moving WR Emmanuel Sanders back outside opposite WR Demaryius Thomas. WR Andre Caldwell will return to the No. 4 receiver role.

Fantasy Tip: Unfortunately, Welker won't be available at FantasyScore this week, but he should be returned immediately to all standard lineups against the Seahawks.

Broncos | Wes Welker reinstated

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 07:46:07 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker has been reinstated Wednesday, Sept. 17, after a new drug testing agreement was reached.

Fantasy Tip: As mentioned previously, Welker is not guaranteed to play in Week 3. He is priced at $3,700 (7.4% of your cap) on FantasyScore against the Seattle Seahawks. He's a cheap gamble to take this week, but it's a very poor matchup.

NFL | Drug testing agreement reached

Wed, 17 Sep 2014 06:32:03 -0700

The NFL and NFLPA have reached an agreement to a new drug testing policy. An announcement is expected soon.

Fantasy Tip: Wes Welker may be eligible to play in Week 3. He is priced at $3,700 (7.4% of your cap) on FantasyScore, but they are playing the Seattle Seahawks in Week 3. He's a cheap gamble to take, but temper expectations. Josh Gordon could be eligible to return later this season as well.

Broncos | Wes Welker to be reinstated

Mon, 15 Sep 2014 14:03:12 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker will officially be reinstated following the agreement of a new drug policy.

Fantasy Tip: Welker should be good to go in Week 3 against the Seattle Seahawks. He's a low-end WR2 option, but there's always the injury/concussion risk.

Broncos | Wes Welker unlikely in Week 2

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 19:26:15 -0700

Updating a previous report, Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker is unlikely to play in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs, as he has not gone through a full practice since Aug. 19.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners will want to avoid Welker in the upcoming week, even if he is able to suit up and play. Let him knock the rust off before relying upon him for one of your lineup spots.

Broncos | Wes Welker eligible in Week 2

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 16:26:25 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker is eligible to return to the field in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs Sunday, Sept. 14, following the agreement between the league and NFLPA on terms for the new drug policy.

Fantasy Tip: It's uncertain if Welker will be activated by the team since he hasn't practiced all week, and FantasyScore owners probably want to wait a week to see how he produces before plugging him back into the active lineup.

Broncos | Wes Welker cleared from concussion

Fri, 12 Sep 2014 14:54:27 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) has cleared the concussion protocol, and he would be able to play in Week 2 against the Kansas City Chiefs if he is cleared by the NFL surrounding a possible new deal on a drug agreement. However, that doesn't mean he'd be active for the game.

Fantasy Tip: Welker is at the minimum price point for receivers in Week 2 at FantasyScore ($3,700; 7.4% of cap). Even if the league reaches a new deal before Sunday, it appears unlikely that Welker would be active on such late notice.

Thu, 11 Sep 2014 17:10:44 -0700

The NFL and the Players Association are close to finalizing a new drug agreement that would bring human-grown hormone testing and changes to the marijuana policy. Players could vote on the new deal as early as Friday, Sept. 12.

NFL | Players to vote on new drug policy

Tue, 09 Sep 2014 09:15:32 -0700

Updating a previous report, the NFL Players Association will vote Tuesday, Sept. 9, on a revised drug policy, according to player sources. The policy will include human growth hormone testing for the first time ever, as well as changes that raise limits for marijuana testing and expand neutral arbitration. The league has received complaints from owners regarding reinstatement for recently suspended players like Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon and Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker, who would not have been suspended under the proposed policy.

Broncos | Andre Caldwell starting Week 1

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 15:51:52 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Andre Caldwell is listed as a starter for Week 1 against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, Sept. 7, in place of the suspended WR Wes Welker. The team is expected to use a combination of WRs Emmanuel Sanders, Demaryius Thomas and even their running backs in the slot for Week 1. The team might also use two tight ends while using flex TE Jacob Tamme in the slot.

Fantasy Tip: FantasyScore owners who rolled the dice on the low-priced Caldwell could be in for a surprising stat line with Caldwell. Stay tuned.

Broncos | Wes Welker cleared

Sun, 07 Sep 2014 09:36:24 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) was cleared to play by an independent doctor last week and would be ready to play if his four-game suspension is lifted. Welker's suspension may be lifted if the NFL and NFL Players Association are able to agree on a new drug testing policy.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should still prepare for Welker to sit out the first four games of the season, but it would be a bonus if his suspension is lifted. Welker is an injury risk but should be started most weeks when he plays.

NFL | Gordon, Welker may return soon

Fri, 05 Sep 2014 06:03:19 -0700

Cleveland Browns WR Josh Gordon and Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker could have their suspensions reduced if the players and owners agree on a new drug testing policy. The new policy that may be forthcoming would include testing for human growth hormone. Offseason use of amphetamines would move from the performance-enhancing substance policy to the substance-abuse policy. Welker would go from a first-time offender in the PED policy to a first-time offender in the substance-abuse policy, which means he would not be subject to suspension. The threshold to trigger a positive result on a marijuana test would rise. Gordon's positive marijuana test was barely above the NFL's current threshold for a positive test.

Fantasy Tip: Gordon and Welker would make an immediate impact for fantasy teams and could be great values on FantasyScore next week if their suspensions were lifted.

Wed, 03 Sep 2014 06:09:12 -0700

Updating previous reports, Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker allegedly took "Molly" at the Kentucky Derby in May, which was cut with amphetamines and triggered the failed drug test, according to a source. Another source said Welker tested positive for Adderall. Welker has denied taking any drugs either recreational or performance-enhancing.

Broncos | Wes Welker suspended

Tue, 02 Sep 2014 15:55:25 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker has been suspended four games for amphetamine use, according to sources.

Fantasy Tip: This is obviously a big blow to Welker's fantasy value and subsequently gives more value to Demaryius Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, Cody Latimer and Andre Caldwell. The Broncos' bye is Week 4 so Welker won't return until Week 6.

Broncos | Wes Welker on field

Mon, 01 Sep 2014 09:14:59 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) is on the practice field Monday, Sept. 1, but has not been cleared for contact or to play at this point.

Fantasy Tip: Owners should consider Welker as questionable for Week 1 but that could change if he is cleared. He likely would be at least a flex option if he plays, but owners should have another option ready if he sits out.

Wed, 27 Aug 2014 14:09:45 -0700

Broncos | Wes Welker improving

Tue, 26 Aug 2014 14:09:13 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) made another positive step Tuesday, Aug. 26, in his recovery from another concussion, according to head coach John Fox. Welker has still not been ruled out for Week 1.

Fantasy Tip: At this rate it wouldn't be a surprise if Welker suited up for Week 1. He's still somewhat of a risky option with the accrued concussions, but is still definitely worth a look as part of the Broncos' potent offense.

Broncos | Wes Welker update

Sun, 24 Aug 2014 20:12:18 -0700

Denver Broncos WR Wes Welker (concussion) has a good chance to play in Week 1, according to Mike Klis of The Denver Post. Welker suffered a concussion in the team's third preseason game, but his "concussion helmet" helped absorb the blow.

Fantasy Tip: His status still needs to be monitored leading up to the team's opener against Indianapolis, but it looks like he could be ready to go. Welker is a solid WR3 in standard formats and a WR2 in PPR leagues. If Welker misses time, Emmanuel Sanders could see a bump in his value.
