The Associated Press reports sprinter John Capel has accepted a two-year suspension after testing positive for marijuana, the U. S. Anti-Doping Agency said. Capel, a former wide receiver, was selected by the Chicago Bears in 2001 but tested positive for marijuana at the NFL Combine. The Bears dropped him after he was charged with marijuana possession.

The Kansas City Star reports that Kansas City Chiefs WRs Johnnie Morton and Eddie Kennison will be starters for next season. WR Marvin Minnis is likely to occupy the No. 3 spot. The fourth receiver spot is up for grabs between Marc Boerigter, John Capel, Dante Hall, Curtis Jackson, Reggie Jones and Sylvester Morris.

As a follow up to an earlier story, the Kansas City Star reports the Kansas City Chiefs have decided not to sign WR John Capel. The team was underwhelmed by Capel's workout this week and decided to pass on signing him.

The Kansas City Star reports the Kansas City Chiefs are planning to meet with WR John Capel on Wednesday. He was drafted by the Bears but then released before he signed a contract. "If he can pass the physical, I think we'll sign him," coach Dick Vermeil said. "We needed another young receiver with the loss of (Sylvester Morris) in terms of numbers at training camp."

The Chicago Sun Times reports agent Robert Alterman, who represents rookie WR John Capel, was surprised when the Chicago Bears relinquished their rights to his client on Friday. Alterman said he had just talked to the team about starting contract talks for Capel. He expects Capel to land elsewhere. "I had no preliminary warning. I am sure he will be picked up by another NFL team quickly. He's the fastest player in the NFL and with a little work he is going to make some team very happy. The Chicago Bears made a mistake."
