The Philadelphia Phillies released INF Andres Blanco (shoulder), who suffered a shoulder injury while playing winter ball. However, he was re-signed to a minor league contract that does not include an invitation to major league camp.

The Philadelphia Phillies have signed INF Andres Blanco (Nationals) to a minor league contract. He will report to minor league camp and is expected to play for Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Washington Nationals OFs Brett Carroll and Jason Michaels appear to be favorites for two remaining bench spots, but 1B Chad Tracy, 2B Mark Teahen and INF Andres Blanco are still in the running. 1B Tyler Moore is no longer in the mix.

The Washington Nationals could choose to play OF Jayson Werth in center field and OF Mark DeRosa at first base against left-handers this year. OFs Jason Michaels and Brett Carroll have a better shot at playing time now that OF Mike Cameron has retired. INF Andres Blanco could become the team's utility infielder, but the team has no plans to play him in the outfield.
